Keys to the Game:
-Feed Shaq early & often: Let him get what he wants against the smaller front line while he's in there. As the game goes on, he either won't be in often or will be winded.
-Defend the pick & roll: Nash is terrific at the pick & roll, and will run it to death, even if we are able to somewhat contain it. So we must keep our intensity up in this aspect of the game.
-Control the tempo: The Suns will run regardless, but as long as we don't get sucked into playing their style, we'll be ok.
-Transition D: We must must must get back on defense. No bullshitting with the refs, no 'mental lapses'. It'll be a loong night if we can't get back on D.
-Control the glass: No 2nd chance points. They'll be shooting a lot, so leave them at 1 & done.
Sum of the Numbers:
-In 32 career games vs the Cavaliers, Grant Hill is averaging 16.9 ppg; 6.7 rpg; 4.6 apg; 1.3 spg on 46% shooting.
-Steve Nash is averaging 16.6 ppg (2nd most vs any 1 team) & 8.0 apg on 53.5% shooting (51.9% on 3's) in 23 career games vs the Cavs
-Jason Richardson averages 21.3 ppg on 46% shooting (45% on 3's) in his career vs Cleveland.
-Amar'e Stoudemire is averaging 20.4 points & 8.5 boards per game in his career vs the Cavs, but is shooting just 45% (worst vs any team).
-In 2 games vs the Suns last season, Mo Williams averaged 37.0 PPG; 2.5 RPG; 5.0 APG; 2.5 SPG while shooting 57.1% from the field & an astonishing 68.4% from 3 point land.
-In 12 career games vs the Suns, LeBron James is averaging 31.3 PPG (most career ppg vs any 1 team); 7.3 RPG; 7.0 APG; 1.9 SPG; 1.2 BPG; 48.6% FG; 39.7% 3pt.
-Jamario Moon is averaging 10.5 ppg & 5.0 rpg on 59% shooting (54% on 3's) in 4 career games vs Phoenix.
-Shaq has career averages of 26.2 ppg; 11.6 rpg; 2.8 apg; 2.0 bpg on 58% FG shooting vs Phoenix.
-Anthony Parker averages 13.1 points (most vs any 1 team); 3.6 boards on 51% shooting (50% on 3's) in 7 career games vs the Suns.
What to watch for:
-Phoenix & Cleveland are #s 1 & 2 in 3 point shooting at .445 & .438 respectively. The difference that the Cavaliers hold their opponents to a .316 clip from behind the arc, while Phoenix lets opponents shoot over 36% from 3.
-Even though the Cavaliers are dead last in the league in offensive rebounds (8.5 per game), Phoenix allows the most offensive rebounds in the league at 13.4 per game.
-Phoenix leads the league in scoring, but the Cavaliers allow the 6th fewest ppg in the league at 94.6
Inside the game:
-Dating back to last season (As of Monday 11/30), Phoenix has scored 100+ points in 20 straight games, posting a record of 17-3 (Will update if they fail to score 100 in the next game before Cleveland)
-2 of the 3 Phoenix losses this season have come when Steve Nash has gotten single digit assists (5 & 4 respectively.. the 3rd loss, he dished out exactly 10)
-After winning only 2 of 4 games, Phoenix has won 4 in a row with an average margin of victory of 21.5.
-Grant Hill is 29-49 from the field in his last 6 games.
-In his last 6 games, Jason Richardson is averaging 19.5 ppg on 55% shooting (51% 3's)
-Over his last 7, Amar'e is averaging 22.1 points on 67.4% shooting
-The Cavs are 9-0 when scoring 100+ points
-In his last 10 games, Jamario Moon is averaging 7.4 ppg; 5.1 rpg; .8 spg; .5 bpg while shooting 29-51 (56.9%) from the field & 12-26 (46.2%) from beyond the arc. (Side note: After starting off just 1-9, Jamario has now made 12 of 21 from 3 point land)
-After allowing 100+ points in 4 straight games, the Cavaliers have now held opponents under 100 in 5 straight.
-And, of course, if Z finds the court tonight, he will play in his 724th game as a Cavalier, which would break Danny Ferry's team record.
Side note: I kept it very basic, as this is my 1st preview (yep, that's the reason :chuckles
