Game 23 | Memphis (17-8) @ Cavs (17-5) | December 13, 2016 | 7:00pm EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just because players played through it in the past doesnt make it smart.

Players use to return to games with concussions back in the day, should they do that now?

What the front office and coaching staff have learned is how to rest players on certain days to improve their performance in the playoffs. Last year was a perfect example. A better rested Cavs team ran a 73 win GS team out of gas. I rather give a few games up and win another championship.

Honestly what i like is we went 100% all in on the rest day and resting all 3 of our big 3. Not fucking around and making sure they all get rest is the smart way to play this.

Good point, in my post I was reacting as a NBA fan more than anything. I know it's a very smart tactic.

Memphis fan loses more than anything. LeBron/Cavs are premium ticket prices, like most people they buy their tickets in advance and tonight they'll be robbed.

Rest Games are the black eye of the NBA. They have to figure out better scheduling so cities like Memphis who get one chance to see LeBron play.

I don't like shortening the season just because it changes records essentially. The best route I've heard so far is reducing preseason so that there is enough time during the season to spread games out and eliminate back to backs.

Overpaid crybaby millionaires. Can't handle a freaking back-to-back?? GTFO of here.

I agree, don't pay them and they wouldn't dare sit.

Tristan Thompson will only play five to six minutes tonight, per Ty Lue.

We've seen so many great players go down with injuries, why not look to mitigate that? It's conducive to winning and long term success to rest like they've been. Why should they suck it up on your behalf?

If they're worried about injuries they shouldn't even play 1 game. There are plenty of off days throughout the season to rest. The argument is actually counter intuitive - you're more likely to get injured after resting than if you played, for example, a back-to-back.

Guys don't like back-to-back games? Fine, the season will be longer and you'll have less time for R&R in the offseason. No way the league shortens the season because that's lost revenue.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's an easy way around this and fans will keep getting the shaft. If they don't pay a player (which they shouldn't if you're not with the team) then guys may just dress and sit on the bench. How could the league fine guys if they don't start? They can't.

How are you less likely to get injured by playing the back to back? If you do a little light exercise and stretching that should be fine to keep you in shape during the off days...

If anything putting more strain on tired muscles and other parts of your body is going to increase the chance for injury.

These guys are 20-30 years old. If they were 50+ then you'd have a case.

It's pretty common that guys will have little nagging injuries and end up making them worse or injuring something else as a result of favoring whatever body part has the nagging injury.

Look at Kyrie in the Finals, 2015.

Look at JR a few games ago. It was reported he had a sore knee and was refusing to get an MRI. Then he hyper-extended it.

I'm not saying they all have nagging injuries but a little rest is not going to hurt them or make them more injury prone. And the Grizzlies are one of the most physical teams out there. As much as I'd like to see them when every game and get HCA through the playoffs, I'm not mad they are resting.
