Cavs Notes
. Tonight’s game marks Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown’s 300th game as head coach of the Cavaliers. He enters tonight with a 187-112 (.625) record.
. LeBron James finished with a season-high 55 points, five rebounds and nine assists against the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 20. It was James’ 7th game with 50+ points in his career (all road games and the Cavs are 5-2), the second-most points he has ever scored in a game (56 - at Toronto on March 20, 2005) and his second 50+ point game versus Milwaukee (52 points on 12/10/05 at Milwaukee).
. James made a career-high eight three-pointers, tying him with Danny Ferry (2/13/96 vs. Charlotte) and Wesley Person (2/17/98 at Philadelphia). James scored 24 points in the third quarter, including 16 in the first 2:50 minutes of the period and tied his own franchise
record for points in a quarter, which he’s done twice before (1/6/08 @ Toronto and 4/11/08 @ Chicago). James also tied the franchise record for three-pointers made in a quarter with five.
. It was James’ second 50-point road game this month, having scored 52 points in a game in New York on February 4. The last NBA player with a pair of 50-point road games in the same month was Kobe Bryant in March 2007, in Memphis and New Orleans. Only Wilt Chamberlain (45), Michael Jordan (13) and Kobe Bryant (nine) have had as many 50-point road games in NBA history. (Elias)
. James was credited with nine assists, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Rick Barry (twice), Michael Jordan and Tony Parker as the only players in NBA history to be credited with nine-or-more assists while scoring 55-or-more points in an NBA game.
. The Cavaliers are only averaging 13.2 turnovers per game and rank 8th in the NBA. On the defensive end, the Cavs rank 5th in the NBA (Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Utah) in converting points off turnovers at 18.5 per game.
. The Cavaliers hold the best home record in the NBA at 24-1 (.960). Their 23-game home winning streak was the longest home winning streak in franchise history, both to start a season and overall. Cleveland was only the fourth team to start a season 23-0 since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976-77. At home, Cleveland holds opponents to NBA-lows 89.6 points on .421 shooting while averaging 104.7 points (9th) and shooting .484 (4th – Phoenix, Boston, Utah) this season.
. The Cavs are 28-0 when they score 100 points, averaging 108.6 points to opponents 93.6 (15.0 point margin) and are shooting .495 while opponents are only shooting .428. Of those 28 games, 15 have come at home and 13 have come on the road.
. For the 2008-09 NBA season, the Cavaliers rank in the Top 5 in the following defensive and offensive statistical categories:
- . The Cavs are winning games by a 9.9 point differential, which ranks 1st in the NBA.
- . The team ranks 1st in overall opponent points allowed per game, the only team to allow less than 92.0 points, at 91.0.
- . Cleveland ranks 2nd (Boston) in defensive field goal percentage, allowing opponents to only shoot .428 from the field. There have only been two teams this decade to rank 1st in both categories (2000-01 New York Knicks – 86.1 ppg/.417 and the 2003-04 San Antonio Spurs – 84.3 ppg/.409).
- . The Cavs rank 3rd in the NBA (Portland, Boston) in opponent rebounding, holding teams to only 38.4 rebounds per game.
- . The team ranks 5th in the league (Boston, Milwaukee, Orlando, New Orleans) in opponent points per game in the paint, allowing only 36.4 points per game.
