I haven't watched the game ( I dvr'd it), but I was looking through the box score and saw that LBJ played 41 minutes. Why on earth did Brown play him so much?
Mo's foul trouble and Delonte being out meant that the rotations were screwed up. Then, Brown messed up in the 2nd half, in my opinion.
In the 1st half, Brown left LBJ in until 8:15 of the 2nd quarter, at which point Mo came in. Lead fluctuated from 21 down to 18 when LBJ came back in at 3:14 of the 2nd. Held that lead until halftime.
In the 2nd half, Brown left LBJ in at the start of the 4th, and the disinterested Cavs and feisty Nets meant the game started to shift. LBJ played his worst during the opening minutes, through the 9minute timeout, and all of a sudden it was down to an 11-point game with 6:30 left. LeBron had 2 assists and 0 pts during that stretch. And by then, Brown decided to keep riding LeBron to preserve the victory, and the Cavs pushed it back up to 17 with 2:26 left, when LeBron finally came out.
LeBron should have come out at the start of the 4th or at the 9 minute timeout, but Brown seemed intent on driving for an insurmountable lead with Cavs players who were pretty bored by then. It was a lost opportunity to save LeBron 3-5 minutes in the 4th, in my opinion. Would have preferred to see more Mo/Hickson in the 4th to save minutes for LeBron/Jamison.
The plus side is that LeBron wasn't exactly giving it his all in the 4th, so the amount of minutes in the 2nd half are not a big concern. They were playing out the string, and they have a day off. But I still didn't want to see LeBron come back out at the start of the 4th and again after that 8:52 to-go-timeout when the Cavs had a 17-point lead.
