To anyone in the know...in what way is Stuckey's incident on court different from Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis? Did you see anything in Stuckey's demeanor or anything that makes it different (i.e. not as bad) as what happened to the other two?

May sound like an immature question but hey how do we move forward if those that don't know don't ask...

I was just telling my wife about the Gathers special that ESPN ran yesterday. Looked similar, tho Hank sat up at one point then went back down and didnt move again

From November. I have no idea if it's related. Dizziness is not equal to a seizure. Just wishing the absolute best for Stuckey.

Second-year guard did not travel with the team to Sacramento on Monday - November

When the Pistons boarded their flight to Sacramento on Monday morning, they were another point guard short of a full team. One week after the Pistons traded Chauncey Billups in the deal for Allen Iverson, Rodney Stuckey stayed home for further medical observation after a bout with dizziness during Sunday’s loss to Boston.

Stuckey, the team’s No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, went to his knees as the first half of Sunday’s game ended, then rose slowly but stayed hunched over as Pistons strength coach Arnie Kander talked to him for a few minutes. Stuckey walked toward the locker room under his own power but didn’t return for the second half.

After the game, Pistons coach Michael Curry said Stuckey seemed OK. When asked if he expected him to make the trip with the team on Monday morning, Curry said, “Yeah, I sure hope so. He felt a little lightheaded, so they held him out. I saw him at halftime. Our doctors saw him.”

eh, it definitely hit the rim, and I can buy that he was fouled. It wasn't unreasonable.

Well Donaghy did say Bavetta manipulated games to his favor.

Yes, they said yesterday that Gathers had an enlarged heart. He'd actually collapsed just after shooting a free throw earlier in the year, but was cleared to keep playing (in hindsight, that was a mistake). Then he collapsed and died after completing a dunk.

Stuckey had a seizure, and I don't believe he's had a history of any medical problems (I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?).

Gathers was given medication to keep it in check. He stopped using it because he felt that it interfered with his play, which turned out to be a terrible mistake.

Ew, that's a really bad one. That tendon in the patella is not a good one to injure at all. :(

i'm really suprised there are no more players having such a health problems. NBA shedule is very intensive and with all this travelling from city to city and brutal basketball every second night, atlhetes really must be tough to handle it

Fuck.

Well, there goes my Cavs-Nuggets finals match-up.

My mistake. Thanks for the info.

Does the NBA mandate that training staffs make sure each and every player has a regular heartbeat before the game? And is there a medical "measurable" out there to ensure that someone is not dehydrated?

If not, that is a shocking lack of due diligence IMO...if an irregular heartbeat could have caused this, I see some new, more stringent regulation of pre-game health checkups.

And as for dehydration...I have some difficulty believing that had anything to do with it...I don't know anyone who wouldn't take advantage of free Gatorade...:)
