Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #2 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Indiana Pacers | Oct 26th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't care who they play... if they come with that level of intensity that they had tonight then they'll be in every single game.

They will be in most of them for sure. This is a well coached team considering how young they are. Really like what i am seeing out of our Soph and Rookies.

Without a doubt, one of the single most enjoyable games of Cavalier basketball in recent memory that I can remember.

I mean, we have systems. On both ends of the floor. We have offensive fluidity and plays. We have commitment, effort and scheming on defense. We have players that are actually fun. Garland is going to be shooting 3s for days and he distributes the basketball better than any rookie PG we've had in years.

The court and the jerseys looked bananas. Daugherty and AC's commentary was energetic, memorable and super exciting and - during a time of great sorrow with the loss of Fred - was a refreshing injection of well-needed fun and laughter. Does anyone know what the setup is moving forward? Was that just a one-time thing? Or can we expect more of Brad and AC?

Just a ton of pleasure from watching that game. If the vets continue to lead and the young guys continue to grow and show development, this'll be a thoroughly enjoyable season, irrespective of our final record.

They said Daugherty would be on for "selected" games. Yeah, those guys had a great time. Too bad Fred couldn't have seen this.

I was worried about the offense after they only scored 85 against Orlando, but not after they hit 50% of their shots. Henson needs to improve his free throw shooting, however. He was 1-for-6 coming off 56% last year. And Cedi looked overmatched. He needs to work on going to his left. Windler might end up taking some minutes from him.

Who is this Tristan Thompson guy and when did we pick him up? He kicked Turner's butt.

Beilein was right when he said Garland is an "elite passer". And he's only going to get better!

This was definitely one of the most enjoyable Cavs games I've seen in a while. The 126-101 beatdown of the NBA Champion-to-be Raptors last spring was also pretty fun, though.

This is not going to be a depressing 20-62 season with a lot of non-competitive losses. But let's not get too excited - Indy was missing Oladipo and Lamb.

Not impressed with how the Cavs almost choked the game away at the end, allowing quick baskets by the Pacers while turning the ball over. Sexton tried to drive early in the shot clock and got blocked at the rim by Turner when we needed to milk some clock. Like Brad and Austin were saying, they're young and don't know how to close out a game. The Cavs also committed two turnovers on inbound passes.

Fortunately, Garland nailed a 3 and TT, stuck at the top of the key with the clock expiring, drove the lane and got a floater to drop. Those two shots were huge because they forced the Pacers to force up shots quickly and they couldn't run a play.

I never thought I'd see Thompson score 25 points, hit a 3-pointer, and go 2-for-2 from the line.

Have to learn how to win and keep you cool and take good shots late like that. It was a really good game for the Cavs. Sexton even had 3 assists and could have had 1-2 more. I'd love to see him get up to 5 assists per game. If he can get there, then we have something with him.

Garland definitely can play, he is very smooth. Has to get stronger. Cedi has plateaued. TT is playing for that bag. Love still a guy who can rebound and score. KPJ flashes, but is a WIP. I know JC had 15 but he is awful. Excited to see this team in the New Year when Windler is back and hopefully we clear a minutes logjam with some trades. Really good to get an early win and not have to deal with an 0fer.

Cedi barley touched the ball. Seriously. In 28 minutes he had it once or twice.
28 minutes, 1 point, 1 rebound. He was the invisible man. But he didn't hurt the team as he was a +9. He pulled his weight on the defensive end.

I thought Beilein did a nice job of balancing the scorers with the non-scorers. As a starter Cedi is on the floor with Garland, Sexton, Love, and TT, so they don't need him to score. He's clearly the last option with that group, which is good because he can't create his own shot in the half-court offense. He's not quick, he can't go to his left, his 3-point shot is unreliable, and he doesn't have a jump shot or a floater.

When the second unit comes in they have problems scoring because Delly is not a scorer and neither is Henson or Nance. They need Clarkson or Porter to break down the defense and create a good shot for themselves or somebody else. Cedi would not work with the second unit because he would be one more guy who can't score in the half-court offense.

Mike Longabardi is officially the worst defensive coach in NBA history. The data continues to mount

His Wikipedia page boasts of his 2 NBA championships as defensive coordinator!

I'm still in disbelief about last night's game. That was just awesome.

I really love Garland's game. He is going to be a stud. Cannot wait until he's unleashed.

I worry about him defensively, but likely too early to pass judgement.
