Game Thread | 2022-23 Season | Game #1 | Cavs @ Raptors | Oct. 19, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Toronto plays defense dirty as fuck. The entire game they hack, claw, grab, poke, push, scratch, and undercut. They pretty much foul on every play and the officials can only call a fraction of them because otherwise they'd be blowing the whistle every play. And they can't drive the lane without pushing off with their off arm. Barnes got caught a bunch doing that.

Cavs were up by 8 points after three quarters but the Raptors got hot in the 4th from deep, hitting 5 of 7. Siakam, Anunoby, and Barnes took turns bulldozing their way to the rim and either scoring or drawing a foul. They do a nice job of throwing their shoulder into the defender to knock him back and create room to shoot the layup.

The Raptors play intense defense for all 48, switching and clawing with lots of help when the ball goes into the paint. The refs let them get away with murder.

The Raptors won the turnover battle by 4 and had 6 more offensive rebounds resulting in 11 more shots. That, along with Garland going down, loose officiating that was clearly biased for the home team, and shooting 43.4% from deep got them the W.

Garland did not look ready to play. Six missed shots and five turnovers in only 13 minutes. He was a disaster. I've never seen him play so bad. Last year he easily led the team in the +/- category but tonight he was a -10 in 13 minutes.

Mobley looks like the same player as last year. The Raptors seemed too physical for him. He was a team worst -14.

LeVert had 7 assists but his shots weren't falling; he was 2-for-7. Mitchell was impressive with 31 points and 9 assists. Once Garland gets back to his normal self that's going to be one heck of a guard combination.

Disappointing loss but considering it was on the road, Garland only played 13 minutes, the refs were calling everything for Toronto, and the Raptors had a hot shooting night from deep it wasn't too bad. They were knocking down contested 3's with a hand right in their face. I can't believe they'll shoot like that all season.

Yeah, Garland's offense was crummy, but he got 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block in 13 minutes. He's had bad starts before. I expected him to heat before the half ended. You're looking at a small sample size.

Refs were a fkn joke and I can't stand Siakam, Vanvleet and Scottie Barnes. Man I hope we beat these cheating fuckers in a series

There is this ref with plucked eyebrows, a fade and a silver chain who's really suspect. I watched during PS and he fucking stinks. I think he is new. He is crooked I'm telling you.

Toronto plays scrappy. They go for steals and off rebounds. That is why I feel wary when playing them. Cavs play more of a finesse game. Teams that are physical give us a hard time, that's why LBJ is unstoppable when playing against us and why we have nuggets' number last season. Cavs will need to find toughness this season.

Except for like 2-3 dudes the entire Raptor team is full of 6'-8" switchable players. They are going to be a tough matchup for this Cav team which barely has any big wing size players on the roster.

I really fkn hate the raptors. Vanvleet just seems like a cunt. Barnes has the derpiest face and does the corniest stuff on court. Siakam gets away with travels, offensive fouls and over the backs then gets every touch call on offense

I havent calmed down. If anything I am even more angry

Just watched the game.

Cavs are a better team than the Raptors and I was happy with how the Cavs responded and played. They played a hell of a game.

Toronto's style is going to lead to:
A) Burnout from their core
B) Escalation when another team has enough of their bullshit. Refs have to reel that in.

Another thing is I’m not seeing superstar with Mobley anymore. He’s clumsy ass hell with the ball, can’t consistently shoot and is a subpar rebounder.

People will get on you for this but I also came away from this game thinking Mobley has got to get better. Our path to being a true contender is based on him becoming an all-NBA player.
