Game Thread | Game #43 | Cavs @ Trail Blazers | Jan. 12, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow. What a game. It was as close and intense as I thought it would be. With Dame playing, it's never easy. He got a 50 spot tonight.
Cleveland CavaliersPortland Trail Blazers

We outrebounded them, out assisted them, had fewer turnovers, and almost equaled their shooting. We beat them from the free-throw line.
24-31 versus 22 for them.

Defense showed up in the 4th like usual. As much as we bitch and moan about our defense....we are still the second best defensive team in the league. It showed in the 4th.

Its hard to play that intense of defense 82 games 48 minutes, sometimes more. But it shows up in the 4th (when the refs dont fuck us) and will show up in the playoffs

Okoro quietly had a really good game. Dude impacts winning more and more lately.

Love seeing him start to use his athleticism on the glass and to draw some fouls. He’s also a very nifty passer, but his lack of ball handling has hid the passing skill for a while. When he catches the ball on the move he makes some really good reads.

Explain that in a way that actually makes sense and is not just an empty cheap shot.
I just would like to see more parts of the offense to utilize Donovan off the ball, back door cuts, back picks for Donovan (saw this a lot in Utah). We get stagnant a lot and then becomes too much 1v1 in many parts of the games. These guys are definitely great 1v1 players but there is a lot to basketball to utilize them on the offensive end.

I always give credit to JBB on the defensive side. Very picky when it comes to offense.

You see JBB cant coach eventhough the team outscored the home team by 10 in the 4th on the back of their defese, its always the players doing right and if anything goes wrong, well its JBB fault...but in this case we won, so JBB deserves no credit.

They all played their butts off in the last quarter. Should be no complaints against anybody.
On the road, which has been a sore spot for us so far, held the Blazers below their home scoring average and show a TON of grit and will to TAKE this game away from the Blazers.

Bummed about Dean. Hope it’s not too bad of a setback

Except Donovan is scoring more on much more efficient shooting and you wannt JBB to do what they did in Utah instead of this MVP canidate version of Donovan?

Like the motion and passing that led to the Okoro 3?

And when you have players as talented with the ball as Mitchell and Garland, allowing them to surgically breakdown their guy and pull a help defender away from his main guy, and then exploiting that numbers advantage IS smart offense for this roster with this personnel

Good and important comeback. Garland stayed in his lane, and Spida came up big in crunch-time. Good efforts by all starters, including Okoro. Good to have Ricky back and contributing already!

Individual stats. We had a lot of contributors.

Starters:
Mobley 17-8-3 with a steal and a block in 25 minutes. Imagine if he played 35. Foul trouble in the first half and the 3rd quarter. JYD?
Garland 20-2-10 in 33 minutes
Allen 24-10-6 with a steal in 38 minutes Tied his season high.
Mitchell 26-5-5 with 2 steals in 36 minutes. He ended up leading us in scoring, despite an off-shooting night.
Okoro 11-5-0 with 2 steals in 29 minutes Good game.

Bench: 21-14-5 in 30 minutes. Not great, but 12 points better than Portland.
LeVert 4-4-3 in 30 minutes Off shooting but some good defense.
Rubio 9-3-1 in 10 minutes. Much better than I expected for his first game in a year. If he can play 20-25 minutes, look out NBA! JYD?
Love 0-6-0 in 15 minutes. His shooting slump continues.
Osman 2-1 in 8 minutes.
Stevens 6-0-0 in 13 minutes
