Game Thread | Game #77 | Cavs @ Hawks | March 28, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Literally lands a full foot or more INSIDE the 3P line after taking the shot BEHIND the 3P and with his body angled out unnaturally as well.

I normally only complain about the refs incompetence and bias, but when you couple this play with the granting of the TO on the called fouls we made on Capela and reconcile it was the fact the the spread was Hawks +2.....it really does make you wonder.
Watch the 2 minute report contradict everything Secaucus had to say, and that's when you know the league is shit

After the refs, I'm putting this loss on LeVert. Being the fourth option and contributing 9 points, letting Murray push him around, and bricking FTs like Shaq when we needed him just isn't acceptable.

So there was clear and convincing evidence that Embiid didn't charge Mobley and Rubio not only wasn't fouled by Okongwu but also was guilty of fouling Okongwu. But no clear and convincing evidence that Murray didn't initiate contact by kicking his legs forward and landing five feet from where he took off. Ok...

I will be damn glad in another year or two when Mobley has enough star power to not get boned on calls like this one.

Until then, we’ll just have to wait for the league’s last two minutes report (working title: “Yeah, Cavs, You Got Assfucked”) for this game.

Reasons Cavs lost

1. Allen and Okoro out
2. Refs
3. Extended minutes for Stevens and Diakite, due to #1
4. Poor rotational depth overall(I love Koby for making the Mitchell deal but he has bench work to do this offseason. Love falling of a cliff this year also didn't help)

Before I give any Cavs main rotation player or coaches flak for the overall game tonight(of course always individual plays to nitpick)

This loss wasn’t on the refs the Cavs every game go down and try to come back in the fourth. Give effort the whole game. If they have to conserve energy for the second half then that’s on the coach, not doing a good job distributing minutes. Cavs aren’t good Enough to play with their food.

Levert scored 9. Stevens scored 4. Rubio scored 9. Cedi scored 4. Diakite scored 2. We didn't get enough scoring from any of them.

You can blame 7 missed free throws from LeVert, Stevens and Mobley.

But losses are team losses. You can blame the fact we only had 20 assists. Even Mitchell and Garland only shot 45%, taking 33 and 22 shots respectively.

We fell 3 points short of winning. Had any of our 16 missed 3s gone in, we'd have won.

LoL Hawks fans saying look at the side angle, that's a foul on Mobley!!

Thats a fair point and area for needed growth as the team grows together. And it's been true many times this year. But it doesn't hold up for me much tonight when you're down two starters, who are both two of our top defenders, on a team that is not very deep in terms of quality rotation.

pretty annoying to get hosed like that, sometimes there is not justice in sport. Having said that we will be in the playoffs and they wont be, not this year Trae you lollipop looking fiend

Really, really discouraging as the Cavs were screwed on the challenge but they also did it to themselves, missing seven free throws, including 0-for-3 by LeVert and Stevens 0-for-2 in the final minutes. Garland was 1-for-6 on 3's and missed a wide open floater in the final minute right before Murray hit that fallaway over LeVert after blatantly shoving off.

The Cavs had no bench tonight as Diakite, who is an average G League player, was a -17 in 13 minutes and Cedi was a total no-show at -19 in 12 minutes. The Cavs outplayed the Hawks with their starters on the floor. With all the injuries this was a game where the Cavs needed Cedi to step up and he disappeared.

The Hawks bench was +9, +10, +15, and +23. Our bench was -5, -17, and -19. Chalk this loss up to injuries, but better free throw shooting would have gotten us the win.

If the Cavs get the challenge in their favor it saves three points and another timeout at the end. That call was the difference.

Murray was unreal, hitting some amazing contested shots over Mobley putting a 20-foot arc on the shot. He had two 4-point plays plus the huge call that was unheld on the challenge. He ended up with 29 points.

Okongwu continues to make the Cavs pay for taking Okoro over him. He had 21 points in 20 minutes with 9 boards. Big mistake to pass on him for Okoro.

The Hawks shot 44.4% on 3's and some of them were pretty amazing as they knocked down shots with a defender right in their face. They also got five more points on the three fouls called on the Cavs defending 3's, all on Murray.

Awesome performances by Mitchell and Mobley. If we have Allen we probably blow them out. Even with Wade instead of Diakite we win. The one game where he's sick is the game we needed him.

Fuck... and I mean FUCK those refs. Bum ass Zaza gave this league an excuse to make 3 point shooting that much more "free". That landing space rule needs to be scrapped if shooters are allowed to grift with drop kicks against the defender.
Trae Dung is not better than Darius Garland.

Even with the missed FTs, the disparity was ridiculous.
Just a dogshit opponent. Getting Embiid calls without having actual Embiid.
Need to see a durable shooter that can erase these dogshit calls. Even having JA available would have been nice.

Austin Carr is correct, the NBA has made it all but impossible to play defense. If that was a foul on Mobley, WTF can you do?

The next rule interpretation that needs to change is that when the ball handler clearly deviates from his normal route to the basket in order to initiate contact, play should continue.

As least I was happy to see the refs not calling fouls when Trae was clearly initiating contact and then flailing.
