Game Thread | Knicks playoff series Game #2 | Knicks @ Cavs | April 18, 2023 | 7:30 TNT

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don’t like our tone. Okoro and Garland sound whiny. Garland talking about “us laying down a little bit”. Come on, no one laid down and played softer than the guy speaking. Take responsibility for your own play, don’t bring the rest of your team into it unless you played like a warrior, be a leader. And JBB - “if we can’t rebound we can’t win”. Umm - it was you who rode a terrible rebounding lineup the whole 4th as we were getting crushed on the glass. And I thought his whole substitution pattern looked uncertain and panicked. Good Lord, we’ve played 82 games. Every other coach in the playoffs knows who he is riding with at this point. If it doesn’t work, then adjust, but you can’t decide Rubio and Wade are your guys and then yank them after 6 & 7 minutes. They’ve barely gotten the jitters out and you’ve decided in the 1st quarter of game 1 something you didn’t figure out in the previous 82 games? And LeVert is unquestionably one of the key pieces that got us this far and you don’t let him play through a rough start knowing you are going to need him to play if we are going to win. Literally no other coach is doing that kind of crap.
That said. If JBB doesn’t outthink himself and just gets us ready to play, I still think we are better than they are and we win this game and the series

Heh. You get playoff experience by playing in the playoffs. You make mistakes and learn from your mistakes.

I expect Garland and Mobley to have better games. Allen was 14-14 and I'd be happy with that again. I want more blocks. We didn't get many because they were shooting floaters and fade-aways, not layups.

I expect us to play more physically. Last game I had us at 57% chance of winning and we underachieved, missing at least 3 layups.

This time, I'd say 59% chance of winning. It'll still be close. Mitchell will still have a great game, maybe 40 points.
22 for Garland.
18 for Mobley
15 for Allen
9 for Okoro

Bench 20
Lavert 15
Osman 5
Stevens will get time.
I can't decide if JB will play Neto or only Rubio. I don't expect points from them.

Cavs 124 Knicks 113

All these "expectations" that our players will show the improvements it takes to win. I hope you're all right. I won't "expect" anything until this group of players actually goes out and does it on the court under playoff conditions and intensity. Yes the "potential" is there but they have yet to show they have what it takes and I'll believe it when I see it.

This was very much intentional by Thibs and the Knicks. He knew our bigs are really good at protecting the rim, so they made a conscious effort to focus on mid-range shots.

I suspect several adjustments. This isn't the regular season anymore. No time for messing.

I guess the only team playing without H(e)art today is going to be the Cavs.

Holy shit no Josh Hart? I feel waaaaay better about this game now. I must’ve missed his injury last game.

I don’t like DG’s comments about the refs. You didn’t know the playoffs were more physical? You better choose wisely who you’re gonna push the envelope with. Brunson is very good at drawing fouls. Would rather just keep Brunson out of the lane and make him hit jumpers.

DG later admitted to the team letting the Knicks control the glass…but it would have been nice to hear DG say something along the lines of “I’m not gonna have 0 rebounds again.”

2021 Clippers (vs Dallas) and 2017 Celtics (vs Chicago) are two recent examples of teams coming back and winning the series down 0-2 starting with home court. It's rare, but it's been done.

With that said: hopefully Cavs avoid that scenario and go out and get a win!

Edit:
just saw that @DTM04 mentioned this, good call!

He ques to questionable, he will play

Will be streaming at game time

I feel like we’re winning this one. It’s must win for us at home vs nice to win for the Knicks on the road, I feel like we’ll have all kinds of urgency and take it. Plus even if Hart plays he’ll be hobbled
