Game Thread | Knicks playoff series Game #4 | Cavs @ Knicks | April 23, 2023 | 1:00 p.m. ABC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Going to be a rough off-season.

Can't say we're any better than the Knicks now.

Also can't laugh at the Gobert trade anymore. Both teams got the same distance in the post-season with the same results.

I’ve been here a decade. It was a fucking joke. Relax.

I don't know what to tell you, if you think jokes like this will ever be appropriate. People lost friends and family on 911 and the war that came after that. I was an active duty Marine from 94-98. I lost a lot.

That humor will never be ok with me.

Another game of getting owned on the boards; 17 offensive rebounds by the Knicks. Jarrett Allen is invisible - he gets manhandled by Robinson and Hartenstein while the wings take it right to the rim and get layups on him all day long. When the Knicks made their 4th quarter surge it was Barrett, Toppin, and Hart going right at Allen and making layups on him. It's like he wasn't even there.

Mitchell went 5-for-18 with six turnovers. First Garland has a historically bad game, now Mitchell. This is what we gave up six draft picks plus Markkanen and Sexton for?

The Cavs can't win with either Garland, Mitchell, or LeVert totally checking out. In Game 1 it was LeVert. In Game 3 it was Garland and in Game 4 Mitchell. We need all three of them to play well, like they did in Game 2. If any one of them totally sucks, we have no chance.

The Cavs also need to hit some 3's. The Knicks are too strong in the paint with Robinson and Hartenstein. In the two games the Cavs beat the Knicks this year they shot 42.1% and 46% on 3's. In the six games they lost it was considerably lower. They can't beat the Knicks in the paint.

The Knicks bench once again blew away the Cavs' bench even though Hart had to start with Grimes hurt. Toppin and Quickley were +11 and Hartenstein was +10. The Knicks just have too many players. Cedi tries but he's just not that skilled. He can't guard Brunson. JBB has given up on Wade and Stevens while Rubio got six minutes and was clearly out of his league.

Garland led the Cavs on a nice burst in the 3rd quarter, turning a 9-point deficet into a 3-point lead. But he needed help from Mitchell and it was not there today. Barrett and Hart did a great job on him defensively and he just missed some open shots.

Hart at 6'4" had two huge offensive rebounds late in the 4th quarter. Both were in heavy traffic in amongst the trees. Mobley and Allen don't have the bulk to contend with the Knicks on the defensive glass. LeVert had 9 rebounds, more than both Mobley and Allen.

Allen's problem is he wanders around on defense and the announcers pointed it out. He expects our guards and wings to get beat off the dribble so he drifts around, following the ball, ready to step up and contest the layup. Unfortunately, doing that leaves Robinson or Hartenstein with an easy offensive rebound so even if Allen forces a missed shot it doesn't matter.

Overall the Cavs played good defense, holding the Knicks to 102 points, which is usually good enough to win. But the Cavs have not figured out how to score on the Knicks, who have a deep bench and are able to swarm on defense and crash the offensive glass. They don't need to pace themselves or save energy. Hart, Quickley, Toppin, and Hartenstein come off the bench with their hair on fire knowing they'll get a few minutes and sit down. They play every possession like it's the final possession of the game and the score is tied.

The Cavs went with a seven-man rotation. It's down to the starters plus Okoro and Cedi. JBB doesn't think anybody else can help, and I agree. But Okoro and Cedi were 2-for-9 on 3's and they are not good in the half-court offense, which is what the Cavs are in 95% of the time.

The Cavs have two days off to try and figure something out. They should be better at home with the crowd on their side. But they need to hit some 3's and do a better job on the defensive glass. I don't know if they can. Robinson, Hartenstein, Randle, and Barrett are too physical for Allen, Mobley, LeVert and Cedi and the Cavs simply don't shoot well enough from distance except when Garland, Mitchell, and LeVert are all hitting their shots.

Mitchell has been phenomenal all season dribbling in between 2 players to get to the rim. I just don't believe the KNICKS are the ones to shut off his tap to the rim.
They were coming up trap him and Garland..but Mitchell has tons of skills with the ball so why he was not consistantly driving is a good question. He did go into the paint several times but his shot was off.

I mostly saw him get to the freethrow line. He was getting to the basket in the first half. I'd rather see him throw up a contested shot at the basket than a contested midrange.

Dude, thats playoffs.Whatever they let him do in regular season is not going to work now.Cavs mentally are still in regular season where they had easy time with some teams.

Lol. He's been in the playoffs before. And had poor spacing before. And gone up against better teams in the playoffs before.

It will never be okay with me either. And I never served & didn't lose any friends or family. I don't have the education or the experience to understand a person who says that, then tries to defend it as a joke. Some things are just wrong.

No evidence for this, but I have a weird feeling that if you gave Thibs our guys for a season and JBB the Knicks lineup that Thibs could win this series with our guys
It's a feeling created by the loss. It wasn't Thibs & his coaching that made Mitchell a mess today.

N
Cedi outplayed Mitchell today!

Blows my mind how this board wants to blame Cedi for everything when he’s like our seventh man
No one’s “blaming Cedi” were saying he’s being put out there to fail in certain situations that would be better off if Okoro or Green were out there. It’s not Cedi’s fault that he’s mismanaged, it’s a coach problem. The point was Okoro got a quick hook for less/or the same that Cedi has been doing all series.
