Injured walk-on Gentry moves toe
Columbus-- The Ohio State football team received a boost today with the news that player Tyson Gentry, who has been confined to a wheelchair and paralyzed from the waist down since suffering an injury in the spring, moved a toe on his left foot.
Gentry previously was able to moves his arms and fingers, but it’s an encouraging sign that he had new movement in a part of his body that far removed from the injury.
Gentry, a walk-on receiver, broke his C4 vertebrae after taking a hit and falling to the ground during Ohio State’s spring game. He took the field during halftime of Ohio State’s game with Penn State three weeks ago alongside former Nittany Lion Adam Taliaferro, who walked again after breaking his C5 vertebrae in a game against the Buckeyes in 2000.
Ohio State receivers coach Darrell Hazell, who stays in frequent contact with Gentry and his family, provided the update this evening.“This gives him a lot of hope,“ Hazell said. “He’s ecstatic and his family is ecstatic. It’s a good feeling right now.“
