Get Excited Somewhere Else: John Dorsey

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm just trying to figure out how Dorsey managed to be worse at picking a head coach than Sashi. You could pick names or of a hat and still do better than these two have done.

Wasn't Hue forced on him? Been a while so correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was an arranged marriage, which is why I thought firing Sashi and keeping Hue was about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Either you clean house and fire both or you fire Hue and give Sashi a crack at hiring his own coach.

Again, not saying the dude should be an NFL GM right now, but are you honestly saying the guy shouldn't have an NFL job at all? I feel like he'd be great heading up an analytics department, in a general strategy role, or as an assistant GM.

I mean he wouldn't get a GM position, or a position scouting players. I'm not here to say that Sashi can't help in any area of a NFL franchise. Not sure I'd have him lead strategy or analytics, but I feel like that's semantics. You asked if I seriously don't think he should have an NFL job at all & my answer is that I wouldn't go that far.

Watched the Packers / Chiefs game last night.

Someone walk me through the Ogbah trade again?

I honestly was not paying attention to the lead up and aftermath of that move but it doesn't look great.

If this has been litigated too many times, feel free to pass.....I genuinely am just trying to understand what our motivations were there. Just rotationally, was odd man out?

Essentially DL depth for secondary depth. Ogbah wasn't one of Dorsey's picks; Eric Murray was.

Probably sold a bit too low on Ogbah. At the same time, this was his last year under contract and I doubt the Browns would've brought him back. Not going to lose sleep over a backup DE. Not suggesting that you are.

Edit- I also think Ogbah was disgruntled that the Browns brought into Vernon to take his starting spot, for what that's worth

He wouldn't have been the backup if they didn't trade away Zeitler for Vernon. Dorsey should have sat on his hands this past offseason.

I'm sure they would've addressed the position in some way. Ogbah was not impressive last year.

Next day is going to be crucial to the future of the organization.

I'm hoping with all I have that Dorsey doesnt make a panic move and trade Williams or, god forbid, Nate Solder.

A 4th rounder out of Avery. Not a bad return, if you ask me.

I'm disappointed they moved him, any other defensive coordinator would use him. Are we even sure Wilks will be back next year?

He definitely has talent and if Wilks wasn't so locked in on using a 4-2-5 on every down, Avery is someone that could easily make an impact on the field. Even having a nose tackle on the roster so they could use a 3-3-5 sometimes with a player like Avery would give some confusion and allows Wilks to keep 5 DBs on the field.

Could be a sign that Freddie is sticking around and Dorsey isn't worried about having to switch back to a defense that Avery can be used in.

That's a fair criticism/concern IMO. I just wonder who made the decision. Common sense would tell you that the coaching staff cornered Dorsey into the decision by not playing. My question is whether or not this is purely scheme related.

That...or...

In 2 months this coaching staff is fired and we are left wondering why personnel decisions were made for these guys who were apparently on the hot seat.

For some reason, it feel to me that Dorsey likes the scheme that Wilks runs. It enabled him to play our 4 starting linemen basically 80%+ of the time and he was able to bring in his guys like Eric Murray, Whitehead, and Burnett to be the safeties. Maybe it plays into his strengths and weaknesses with scouting.

I could see Avery's people quietly asking for him to be moved. No player wants to sit on the bench all year or even worse not be active for games because the DC can't scheme for them. He had a very solid role in Gregg's defense last year and he knows he is at least a rotation player in the NFL.

Shocking Jermaine Whitehead is a former Packer that John Dorsey loved...

Dorsey sucks....I don’t know who is more overrated....Mayfield or the guy who took him. Mayfield at #1 and Denzel Ward at #4 looks epically bad right now

But we got the best player in the draft at #35 anyway
