Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
On a team with no real point guards and a lot of guys who like to chuck, I think he's just trying to fit in as well as he can with mixed results. Everyone would look better, IMO, if we simply had a pass-first point guard (even an old washed-up one like Jose) to get the offense running more smoothly.

Yeah I mean I don't think there would be a better team for him than the Rockets with 2 guys that can really get him the ball in his spots.

He has played very well with Love before. I think that is all we have to look forward to. I am disappointed in his play thus far.
Me too, honestly. That first couple games when he got here, I thought...is this dude REALLY this good? Because he looked like a poor man's Blake Griffin.

But since then, he's been absolutely mediocre...if not worthless, for much of his time on the court.

I almost forget he's on the team sometimes.

He's dead last on the team in +/-. When looking for some other stats that stand out in his on court/off court to see why they are losing, I see that Larry correlates with more turnovers for the Cavs and More free throws for the opponents. In other words, he might foul too much on both sides of the court

His obsession with dribbling up the court rather than handing it to Collin to push is problematic as well. I don't mind when bigs push, but they should get it ahead asap.

This 100% same problem with cedi

Yeah, this is why it's a bad idea to ACTUALLY tank.

How will young guys learn if they're only playing with other young guys who are learning? Certainly, they'll learn things by just playing with NBA quality players, but if we have vets and talented players who make the game EASIER for the young guys...then that will help take pressure off of the young guys, help build their confidence, and set them up to succeed.

Why do you think San Antonio manages to "find" so much talent? Well, maybe they aren't as good as we think...maybe Pop balances winning and development in a way that is more sustainable than "ship or bust" methods.

He's just going thru the motions, not over exerting himself. He got paid thus has a side agenda now i.e. new rides, house, family?, who knows. He knows we ain't going nowhere anytime soon.
He has reasonable court vision, nice passing at times. But he seems to be out of position a lot, always away from the basket, lack of effort on rebounds some days.
For a dunk contest guy, he don't show much there. Nothing near like LBJ mowing people down and flushing it, or even Jeff Green last year a few times. idk, I'm just disgusted today with our near term outlook.

You say he's just going through the motions...but he's leading the team in steals and blocks in spite of ranking 6th in minutes played. If he's just going through the motions, what the hell is everyone else doing?

Well that's fine, I'm not a stat guy and may miss some things. And I'll be the first to tell you nobody else is doing crap worth talking about, not consistently anyhow. Still I'm not impressed too much by Larry. He should be able to stand out from these other stiffs we have.

Sure, he hasn't been as good as I thought he'd be either. I just think he gets an unnecessary amount of grief on this forum when he's not really at the root of any of our problems.

I asked Drew before the game whom he wants to shoot more 3s, and he said, “I want Collin shooting 3s when he has his feet set. Jordan (Clarkson) is a 3-point shooter. Alec (Burks) is a 3-point shooter. Rodney Hood is a 3-point shooter. Cedi (Osman) gets a good look and gets his feet set, he’s a 3-point shooter. Larry (Nance) will take a 3, but again I want him open without a contest as far as a 3-point shooter, and to get it late in the offense.”

Larry is a good rotational player. He is not all-star level and doubt he ever will be. But he is effective, contract is not bad and is a great locker room guy. And he wants to be here. As other said, Larry Nance Jr is the least of our issues

I like Larry as a person and as a player. But I am highly skeptical that he will ever be able to knock down threes at any acceptable rate. He can't even hit short and mid range face up shots reliably.

Nance with 2 straight three pointers... I'm speechless.

For your re-viewing pleasure.

Nance with 2 lovely looking treys and a line of 13/7/7 with a steal and a block in 27 minutes. Draymond-Lite, at your service!

Larry raising the roof like it's 2002.

:chuckle:
