I don't know if it's a mandatory feature of the forum software or whatever, but why even have a report button if we're actively discouraged to never use it?
Seems odd that it would exist in the first place unless you guys have no choice in the matter.
Totally fair question that deserves an answer.
The "Report" button" is for more or less emergencies that require immediate action. An example would be like what we had happen a few months ago, when some spammer came on here and started hitting every thread with massive nonsense posts, effectively shutting down the entire forum.
Even then, the first reaction should be to look at "active users" and the bottom of the page, see if there are any mods or admins on line, and ping them so that@Sebastian doesn't get hit with 50 texts. But if nobody is responding, that would be the time to hit Report. Once obviously.
Or imagine if that was someone posting kiddie porn. That's the kind of thing @Sebastian would want to know about immediately to shut it down.
Other argument-type stuff should generally be handled by pinging mods or admins because it isn't something that justifies interrupting a guy who may be doing something actually important at his work, etc..
