Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How was the install process? I'd like to eventually upgrade our fans as well.

I discovered that one of my bathrooms never had a duct for air to escape outside. My rental in S.F. had the same problem, which led to constant mold problems with the paint. So, I hired a guy to open up the ceiling, install a duct to the outside wall, and wire both fans in both bathrooms.

The duct work was beyond my ability. Cost a little to source it out, but I'm glad I did it!

I think every home I've ever lived in had this problem and I had to fix. Apparently, fans to nowhere are common.

Yeah, a fan venting in between walls is arguably okay for a half bath. You just want the poop smells to disappear.

If you have a full bath with steam, the lack of ventilation is eventually going to fuck up your paint and rust your fixtures.

I know how to restore wood and paint the trim and walls without shitty edges. That's my focus, I am not trying to be an amateur plumber or HVAC specialist.

Finally get to move in after Costco installs my floors early next week. Can't wait!

Anyone into Home Assistant?

Anyone into home theater stuff?
So I was going to spend like 10k turning my basement into a home theater and then I went to Vegas (Wynn) and discovered the magic of smart device controlled curtains. It wasn't the easiest project ever but my living room now has a smart curtain to separate it from the kitchen. Then the living room has surround sound and black out curtains.

I can basically black out my living room and get 85% the effect of a home theater. The 65" oled helps.

Edit and to be more helpful just go to avsforum that site is amazing. It's like RCF except for everything home theater

AVSForum is incredible. 100% the best place for anything home theater.

I've been running Home Assistant for years and finally refreshed my home theater. Just figured I'd see if anyone else has jumped down the rabbit hole on either topic.

DrZzz on YouTube is an awesome HA resource.

Fans to nowhere?

Isnt that what they used to call the dog pound?

Has anyone done any lawn alternatives like clover? I freakin hate lawn care. It seems like a giant scam.

If so, can this be done without entirely ripping out your existing lawn?

As I'm closing down my rental, I want to drop an unpaid advertisement for this stuff:

Between my experiments in home installations and my boys being young boys, there are a lot of holes in walls. This stuff hid it all beautifully.

The ones that don't vent to the outside are for farts and not for moisture, but they aren't marked or anything to know. I have 2 that vent and one that doen't? WTF

I just want to complain about the people that lived here before me.

They had a special wall built in the small bathroom. It is barely wide enough for a normal sized washer and dryer.

The washer was riddled with mildew, and I had to get another one. Stacking them and getting everything hooked up and water turned on was a nightmare and my wife had to crawl back there to do it.

Now, I have an electrolux set that are really nice, but not new. I was able to get them in there barely. Imagine you have to put your washer and dryer in a place with only a half inch of clearance on each side and 2 feet of clearance at the ceiling. It's almost impossible to get the dryer vent hose on.

So, suddenly my washer isn't draining. I have to remove the dryer to even get to the outlet hose which is the easiest thing to unclog in this situation, but I dunno if the pump is out, or if there is clog in the filter. Normally, the filter is easy to unclog, but I have a high end model which is not meant to be serviced by you. So, I have to remove the front panel to get to it but you have to remove the top to remove the front panel. I bought a pump just in case because if i was going to do all this BS, I may as well have the part if I need it.

Removed the dryer which wasn't that hard, but heavy. Then I get in there. Remove the outlet hose to check. Hose is largely dry, bad sign. Water shoots out of the pump at that point because of gravity. No clogs despite a bobby pin in there. It's the pump. New pump comes with a broken stand. So, pump is ok, but the thing that holds it that screws into the washer is broken. Luckily the old bracket fits it and I can install.

All this takes 4.5 hours, but it takes 1.5 just to get the vent hose on after that. Total nightmare and there is nowhere else to put the washer and dryer.

Anyway, washer is going now and my wife has bras again.

Cars especially from certain manufactures have things like this all the time. Like they think a certain parts will never fail and somehow it becomes a very common part to fail. Or you have to spend hours to get to a $5 part.

I saw some person on a community FB group asking if anyone had overhead pulleys or lifting system because the previous owner converted a closet into a area for the washer/dryer, then built a half wall by the staircase. Basically it made it impossible to pull the washer dryer out completely and it was boxed in a way that two people couldn't get on either side of the washer dryer once you could inch it out. Some people just don't think of what if this needs to be serviced or replaced.

A couple of houses ago the hot water tank went out, which is normal after 10-20 years.
Problem is the previous owners put in a new furnace, which was bigger and boxed the water tank into a corner. Had to tear out drywall and two studs in the family room to pull it out through there.
Then repainted the entire room. Since I had to paint a section anyway, might as well change the color.

Chrysler Sebring is famous for having to take the passenger wheel off to replace the battery.

My washer dryer closet is half an inch from being impossible. One thing to like about new houses is access panels are much more common and are easily hid. I need to put one in.
