Considering Cookie's 2019 salary was already locked in this is basically a 3 year, 37.25M deal if they don't pick up his option or a 4 year, 48.25M deal if they do pick up his option.

Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

That's quite a healthy hometown discount for the Tribe. Safe to buy his jersey now?

God damn what a steal. Love me some Cookie. I don’t know why he keeps signing these discount deals.

Good deal for both sides IMO. Cookie would've been a few months away from his 34th birthday when he hit free agency. Locking in another $27m or 38m guaranteed for his 34-36 age seasons isn't bad.

At least you have an anchor for your rotation signed long term,,you can fill in around him. Hopefully they do well with whichever pitcher they choose to trade because its vitally important for the long term viability of the team. Bauer or KLuber is now just about a lock to go I would think.

Its honestly the most team-friendly, non-arby years contract I can remember in the team's history.

Probably in the entire free agent era.

Two straight 5+ WAR seasons.

You almost never see baseball players take a discount. It's always been kind of off putting to me. Like no matter how much they "love" the team it's always to the highest bidder.

Cookie is really the only one I can think of who has twice now taken legitimate home town discounts. It's cool to see, it always confused me to not see it more. You see it in other sports pretty often, but pretty much never baseball

Sounds like a really great deal. Now have to hope it pays off for the tribe.

I am actually sitting here trying to think of guys who have done this in any sport and I'm really struggling to think of one.
