There were some Manny-to-Cleveland whispers last year at this time...I think they asked ManRam what he would think about returning to Cleveland and he said he'd love to. Then Shapiro came out with a statement that said, "We're glad Manny thinks so fondly of his days here as a member of this organization."
That's translation for "Hey, I'm a GM, not the owner. Like any other sane GM, I'd love to fix one of the biggest mistakes my successor made in letting the best right handed hitter of our time walk away for nothing and get him back. It will fire up the fan base and get this city interested in baseball again by bringing back a link from the past while he's in the prime of his career. But alas, my hands are tied. Like I said, I evaluate talent. I don't sign the checks or pay the bills. What else do you want from me???"
