How much would Pops love to get his hands on Okoro?

The ball movement last night was great to see. LNJ is getting back to what he can do and that helps everybody.

Okoro is starting to get more aggressive on the offensive end which is resulting in some points, rebounds, assists and a lot of mistakes (like driving to the basket against taller players and getting blocked). He’ll learn.

Awesome game from Okoro tonight. He's starting to show off his finishing ability that many of us were excited about when we drafted him. Night & day difference from earlier this season. Love the fire that he plays with too. Really think the Cavs got a good one.

Also think his lack of size may be overblown. He & Jaylen Brown looked pretty similar in size to me. Just turned 20 and may still be growing too.
Just checked the 2016 draft combine measurements. Brown measured at 6'5.25 without shoes. Same exact height that Okoro measured at. Brown probably has an inch or two on Okoro in wingspan (6'11.75 for Brown, no measurement for Okoro). But if you're looking for a comparison of someone his size playing the 3 at an all-star level, you saw it last night.

I think what we saw last night is just the floor for Okoro.
Can't wait to see how this kid is playing in 2 years. It's going to be bumpy as hell with lots of ups and downs but the potential is there if he puts in the work.

Nice column on the young fella. A Cavs front office guy thinks Okoro's comp is Jaylen Brown. That would be nice.

I have no doubt he can become a high-level offensive player...I know what’s there. I see him every day. I’ve seen the flashes in games as well...He’s going to become whatever we ask of him. I have complete confidence in that. - JBB

There are people worried about his offense. And that’s a fair concern. But not anybody in this locker room. - Larry Nance, Jr
All this.
Butler/Brown is Okoro's ceiling for sure.
I think his floor is maybe Justice Winslow, a solid NBA player, but would be a bust in terms of where he went in the draft.

Does that mean we can blame JBB if he's not a hall of famer?

I'm just not seeing much reason for optimism with this guy. Hope I'm wrong and he comes out like gangbusters next year.

Exactly the opposite of what Larry Nance and the Coaching staff say. Larry was saying how you can't see it because he has been tasked iwth teh toughest defensive assignment and he is focused on that role. Bickerstaff says he has seen the flashes. Last night was a testament to his court awareness and ability to take advantage of situations.

Personally, I think he and Collin are exact opposites in a way. Collin has the skills with an underdeveloped/immature awareness while Okoro has the awareness down but his skills esp ballhandling and shooting are lagging. He was much more under control attacking last night and his finishing was pretty nice.

To be fair, I've never heard Larry say one bad thing about anyone. And JBB isn't exactly a throw-you-under-the-bus kinda guy.

I do agree that he & Sexton are opposites in a lot of ways. Sexton came into the league with a ton of skill and touch, but little feel or BBIQ. Okoro has far less skill, but great feel & BBIQ.

Two way wings are so valuable in the league. Okoro's shot is off, but not broken. He has a lot of Lu Dort potential defensively with much more upside as a finisher / play-maker offensively. Plus, the fire he plays with is something that I think will be contagious as we add talent and the core improves. Games like last night should give fans at least a little optimism IMO.

That's fine. I don't believe it's a requirement to have my opinions match that of the coaching staff and Larry Nance :chuckle:

I'm just not seeing it from him on either side of the ball.

Yeah I don't think you have to match every opinion Larry has, but he I did want you to know he was laughing at you last night in his interview

That's fine. I don't mind. Larry's saying exactly what he should as a teammate and leader.

I tend to agree with you. He’s rarely in the top 10 of the weekly “Rookie Ladder” despite playing more minutes and being the same age as most of the other rooks. This says something about how people who watch the whole league feel about his rookie year. His offense has been so non-existent that opposing teams regularly put weak defenders on him and dare him to do something. Yet, despite playing 33 minutes per game with little defensive attention, his per game numbers are still mediocre. He may get there, but he has a long way to go, especially for a #5 pick.
