for the record, I'm fine still being the only one on the Okoro train. I think he figures out how to play offense to the tune of 14-17 ppg and becomes a top of the rotation starter. He looks better when the ball isn't stopping in the offense.
Nothing's changed, imo. Needs to develop a reliable jumper.

He's not a finished product at all. He is the rawest guy we took.

Also he won the game defending Trae. Trae wasn't even passing for an assist at the end of the game, he just wanted it out of his hands to get away from Okoro

May not be worth a #5 pick, but outside of Mobley he is the only good POA defender we have.
speaking of those two.
I'm not a fan of the "Boody Calls" in the NBA... calling the foul on Okoro late in the game to give Trae the supposedly abolished "Harden Rule" free throws was bullshit.

Okoro made a good play to get around that Capela screen.

No one was drafting Halliburton that high. No one. That‘s a BS hindsight take. If Halliburton was so valued, why did so many others pass?

Maybe one guy said we should‘ve taken Halliburton. No one picked in the 5 slots after Okoro has shown much of anything. Saying the Cavs messed up is a BS revisionist take.

It's actually not. If anything your the one with revisionist history pretending as if Halliburton was never in the conversation as a top 5 pick. He unexpectedly fell to number 12. I remember Steven A Smith vehemently campaigning for the Knicks to draft Halliburton at 8 and was pissed when they passed on him for Obi Toppin. Just type in 2020 Nba mock drafts in google searches and you will find most mock drafts had him in the 4-8 range. But rarely did they have Halliburton slotted to us because we already had Garland and Sexton and KPJ at the time so most mock drafts had us taking Obi Toppin or Deni because of fit.

1. Minnesota Timberwolves - LaMelo Ball, Illawarra Hawks (NBL, Australia)

2. Golden State Warriors - James Wiseman, Memphis

3. Charlotte Hornets - Anthony Edwards, Georgia

4. Chicago Bulls - Deni Avdija, Maccabi Tel Aviv (EuroLeague, Israel)

5. Cleveland Cavaliers - Obi Toppin, Dayton

6. Atlanta Hawks - Tyrese Haliburton, Iowa State

At this stage in your career. He needs to be a hustle guy and go for everyone offensive rebound.

there it is. KPJ was already on the team. If there was the sort of concern of what was going to eventually happen... they might have picked Halliburton as an insurance policy. BPA on a bad team 100% of the time is not a strategy I believe in... because that's basically what the Kings have done over the last few years. And, well...

Trae Young was 8-22 and minus 14 on the night.

A major reason we're not seeing more scoring from Okoro is that is not the role he has been given by the Cavs. He's probably the 5th offensive option at this point, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that he's not putting up the offensive numbers you might normally expect from a No. 5 pick. But that's because we also have a No. 3, another No. 5, a number 8, and a guy on whom we just dropped $20M/year. Plus another 7 footer who was brought in solely for his offensive prowess. Give the guy a bit of time to figure out his offensive role, because the way our team is now set up, his offensive role looks to be spot-up 3's, and that's not his game. Right now, his best offensive role is as a slasher/cutter, but he'd be competing with Allen and Mobley for that space.

He looked significantly better offensively at the end of last season when injuries to our other scorers put more of that burden on him. I wouldn't write him off yet.

funny how many guys on message boards think they are smarter than the people that actually run teams and yet I doubt any are actually getting jobs running the team or scouting.

Ah yes. Let’s flip to this argument instead. We are all just message board peons in your eyes, so who cares.

I’d encourage you to go read the draft threads. I’d have a lot of confidence we could make a 10-12 poster war room from that thread, all with varying opinions across the spectrum and do just as good of a job as most front offices.

Collectively, the temperature of that thread is always well, well ahead of mock draft types and I would suspect far more in line with scouts. There are a lot of healthy disagreements but go read how soon some of the guys that go in the lottery are mentioned, that are not collectively viewed as lottery picks. It isn’t a bunch of hindsight or cherry picking.

KPJ may get there someday, but dude has been posting a PER hovering around 11 and playing really meh defense since he was traded to Houston. When he was here, I noted that our fans were confusing better than Garland (in his rookie year) and Sexton defensively with being a good defender. That hasn't changed. KPJ still has a long way to go.

If you truly believe Okoro will average 14-17 points a game I have some swamp land in Phoenix I want to sell you.

Well... Did we really?

Cavs perhaps wouldn't have had the chance to pick Mobley if the Cavs still had KPJ on the roster..

according to rumors Mobley didn't want to go to Houston because of KPJ.
Evan Mobley's Father was an assistant on the USC coaching staff when KPJ was there. He knew the score on KPJ who had been suspended a good portion of his only season at USC.

I don't think he will average 14-17 points a game as this roster is presently constructed because that role isn't there for him. I do think he may be able to average that if the roster is shuffled to give him a more prominent offensive role.
