Yeah don't know what's going on with Allen. He's just looking low energy lately. Anyone suggesting we should trade him is being ridiculous though.

Allen would look a lot better if this team had proper spacing and better guard play. He's getting beat up down there and bum rushed by multiple guys, and he's being asked to create more than he should.

I agree. He was whole lot better when we were getting better ball and player movement which produced lobs and quick hits for him. Since we’ve returned to the nba equivalent of ground & pound, it does not fit what he does well.

Rim runners are rim runners for a reason. Allen is at his best when our offense has half a step on the defense, with people doing emergency switches and chasing the ball.

He doesn't have a traditional low post game.

JA actually does have traditional low post skills. His footwork has become elite in the paint. If he has space to operate against one defender he can get his buckets.

I keep saying a few people talking about how JA has "declined". You want to know why, it's because the league has watched plenty of game tape and they've adopted strategies to counter our twin towers.

The problem is that when we have no credible outside threat the defensive strategy becomes to sag and crowd the paint, and every time the ball goes into the low post JA has to attack against 2, 3, and even 4 guys who collapse on him, pushing, swiping at the ball, and if they can't knock the ball loose they then foul hard. Also, the refs are allowing defenders to put both elbows on him and push him 2 feet back while he's trying to back them down. Refs are also allowing defenders to undercut both JA and Mobley when they go up for lobs now.

We're missing Lauri's outside shooting, and KLove and Cedi are the only outside threats aside from Garland. Those guys are notoriously streaky and when both KLove and Cedi are bricking from outside it's open season on packing the paint.

But people still expect both JA and Mobley to operate under the rim as though these issues aren't going to impair them.

It's weird. Whenever I watch Allen play these days, he looks like a 6'8'' guy trying desperately to survive under the basket.

Early in the season he looked like a legit 6'11'' monster.

Guy just carries himself differently now.

Allen scored more than 18 points in 45% of his first 31 games this year. He even had a 15 game stretch where he averaged 20 and 12. He hasn’t topped 18 points in the last 13 games, with the last time he did being almost 4 weeks ago. That’s crazy.

It’s a clear adjustment in strategy by opposing teams. They‘re willing to cheat off all our shooters not named Love and Garland to collapse on Allen and beat him up when he gets the ball in the paint. And Allen isn’t a quick enough decision maker to be able to find open guys before the defender can rotate over to contest.

Yeah. He's being game planned to death.

If Allen can add a 3 point shot and a nice dribble drive game, we should be set. I dont think its that hard for a big to do that. We just saw Wood roast us with that skillset and Embiid did it too.

Maybe this will motivate him to bring it every night………

Really sucks for Allen, but I have a feeling he'll get in as the injury replacement. Has to be a front court player to replace KD, right? I don't see who could get in besides Allen.

I think he will replace KD too. StatMuse has him, LaMelo, and Jrue as the biggest snubs; and of the three, he is the only frontcourt player.

Does he HAVE to?

I thought the replacements and coaches picks could just be any position.

They can name someone from the team to start in KDs spot and then just pick any position.
