Kenny Smith said that Kobe Bryant is still the best player in the league

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

When the regular season means more than the post season, Lebronalier fans can say he is better than Kobe.

Til then, 4-0. Kobe is about to have a full hand full of rings to smack this argument out of the water.

With a broken finger. And not a bruise.

Kobe. Ftw!

Three of those rings say "I had the best big man since Kareem in his prime" and one says "I had to get Mitch to get me the best big man today outside of D12, who is playing better than even *I* am right now in the playoffs".

The silly rings argument. Love it.

Using context and perspective also helps.

You nailed it right on the head ^^ . I am Still rooting for Lebron to get his priorities straight: The Cavs TEAM should have priority over his "Homeboy-Team". I still think Cleveland is his best option due to the best owner in the NBA: Gilbert.

Re: kenny smith said that kobe bryant is still the best player in the league in his e

Kobe is the best player in the NBA.

İ Think Best players not only shoot or just play when they have a strong helper (Young Shaq, gasol)
i think Best players need take a very bad team and walk to play-off finals without Helper :)

Re: kenny smith said that kobe bryant is still the best player in the league in his e

Pau 1) wasn't in his prime in those seasons the Grizzles made the playoffs and 2) those teams sucked compared to the teams they played in the 1st round. Pau actually had a terrific playoffs in his first playoff appearance against the Spurs in 2004, and the Grizzles were still swept anyway. Which is *yawn* just more proof that great TEAMS win games and titles, not just great players.

Uh that is what I have been saying all along.

The people who think Kobe is a stiff are the ones saying he is overrated because he can't win a title ON HIS OWN.

Nobody can win a title on their own. That is why the people saying well Kobe would have nothing without Shaq or Pau have a stupid argument.

MJ would have nothing without Pippen and Rodman. Does that mean he sucks? Duncan would have nothing without Robinson, Parker, Manu, does that mean he sucks? You could go on all day, it is a stupid argument.

Those same "stiffs" are simply responding to those that use rings to ranks players. That's all.

You can't use a team accomplishment to say who's better than who in a team sport. It's the argument that Kobe fans love to use, but it's such an argument of convenience. Because I guarantee you no one is going to hand Rondo the "best player" crown over Kobe if he leads the Celtics to a title this year.

No one is saying that Kobe sucks...Kobe is an incredible player that just happens to be way luckier than Lebron when it comes to what matters most, TEAM.

CzBron, do you remember when the Celtics won the title in '08 and the infamous Paul Pierce called himself the "best player in the world"? He must've certainly felt that way because he won the championship and the Finals MVP. And do you know the kind of response that the media (and especially Kobe fans) gave him after that proclamation? You think there were any articles talking about how Pierce was the best player in the league? They stopped short of requesting Stern to send Pierce to the asylum for that statement.

What was the basic argument they used against him? "He can't be better than Kobe, Pierce played on a better TEAM that year!" And you know what? They were right. There's no way I would put put Pierce over Kobe that season because his TEAM won the championship. The Celtics that playoffs had a pre-injury KG and a more reliable bench. He shouldn't be given for what the whole Celtics team contributed, even though he won his Finals MVP. Kobe simply did more for his team and performed better overall that season. There was no "rings argument" to be used after that Finals, simply the same kind of thing WE'VE been saying all along: you can't use rings in a team sport to say who's better than who.

These guys need to pick a side and stick to it. If you rank by rings, then DO so. But don't backtrack when it doesn't happen to FAVOR your favorite player.

Silly Kobe playing with good players trying to make up for Lebron not being able to hack it argument.

:chuckles:

sad pathetic Lebronaliers.

I'm probably the biggest LeBron supporter on this planet, and I have to agree with everyone who said Kobe.

Comparing their game is meaningless at this point (to me, at least). They each have totally different ways of playing on both the offensive and defensive ends. Personally, from an individual player-standpoint, I'd pick LeBron over Kobe right now, in every category (except free throws), but I admit that might be just me being subjective.

The biggest factor in comparing LeBron and Kobe at the moment is what they've achieved with the teams they had built around them. They have both had some shitty teams over the past few years. Kobe gets a legit team, he takes it to the finals the same year they add Gasol. LeBron finally gets a legit team (I'm not going to count the 08-09 team as legit, because, frankly, it was a fucking joke... that somehow still managed to win 66 games in the regular season) and he apparently just gives up. Weak. If Kobe and the Lakers win another 'ship this season, it's settled. Kobe would be able to do what LeBron wasn't.

Your argument does not make much sense to be honest. A LEGIT TEAM steps up and contributes even if the superstar is playing bad. How many playoff games have we won when Lebron has played like crap or even just bad???? We usually need monster triple doubles or something close to that for us to win playoff games against elite teams. That's the biggest flaw of our team. If Lebron is relied upon so much, then failure should be expected.

Kobe has plenty of bad games, but his teammates STEP up and they win. I'll give you some examples:
1) This year, Kobe shot like crap in the series against the Thunder yet they still won.
2) Go back to last year vs. the Magic in game 2 of the NBA Finals. Kobe shot like crap in that game, yet Lamar Odom couldn't miss a shot. Kobe refused to pass the ball to a wide open Odom during the final seconds even though he had 3 guys on him (Lee, Dwight, and Hedo). The Lakers still won
3) Game 7 vs. the Rockets, Kobe only took like 15 shots and didn't do anything worthwhile. Gasol, Bynum and Odom dominated that game and led the Lakers to victory.

I'll stop there since I don't want to dwell any further on Kobe's lackluster games. I'm not hating on Kobe. He is a human being, he will have bad games. The difference between pretenders and CONTENDERS is the simple concept of having a GOOD TEAM!!!!!
The fact that we can't win without Lebron dominating goes to show you which of the two we really were/are.

Even the great Michael Jordan had bad games yet the Bulls still won games because of the contributions from Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, etc.....

You say that Lebron had a legit team this year. Well where were the so called legit teammates during the Boston series.
Is it Lebron's fault that Jamison got destroyed by KG?
Is it Lebron's fault that Mo Williams got killed by Rajon Rondo and could not do anything on the offensive end? Is it Lebron's fault that Mo has choked in the playoffs for the second consecutive year?
Is it Lebron's fault that Ray Allen killed our guards?
Is it Lebron's fault that we kept going to Shaq on the post so he could miss easy shots and Boston could run out for easy points??
Is it Lebron's fault that our so called depth and great role players got bad outplayed by their opposing counterparts??
Is it Lebron's fault that he has the most clueless coach in the freakin NBA??

Trust me, Lebron did not have a legit team. Boston exploited our weaknesses and were a much better team.

I'm not saying Lebron wasn't at fault or that he is immune to criticism. He played bad in game 2 and played like crap in game 5. I've criticized him for those games, but the fact that we always lose when he plays bad is just sad. The other guys should be able to pick up the slack and get us the win.

 This season's team wasn't even that much better than last season's team, if at all (and yes, this can be verified). And I can't recall the last title team that won with only ONE player in the regular rotation giving you above-average playoff production on the court (LeBron...Moon also did that but came off the bench). You think you can win a title that way? With that I'm glad that we weren't SWEPT by Boston, or taken to 7 games by the Bulls.

I know some here want LeBron to win a title to somehow prove himself as a player (which it doesn't, it just means that you played on a consistent team in the regular season AND playoffs), but he ain't gonna be winning it by himself.

EDIT: ^^^ everything flamez said above. /thread.
