To those suggesting cutting Love to spend some of that salary in free agency... That's not how it works in Cleveland. Role players were taking the NBA vet minimum with a contender over the MLE with the Cavs last off-season, and they will do it again in 2021. Until further notice, free agency in Cleveland is for the Damyean Dotsons of the league.
No I would not spend any money on a big FA especially at this point of the rebuild. I'd rather find a hungry young player willing to play his ass off (like Delly did when he first came into the league). The Cavs would be better off with an empty roster spot than Love out there refusing to take shots in order to prove some point.

I wonder if Portland could be convinced into a Love for Covington, Jones, and Leaf the offseason. I’d even kick in a 2nd rounder.

We could recoup the 2nd rounder deadline Covington to a contender and then take a flier on Leaf and Jones, both of who are on short term deals

The regression on Love trades from wanting a valuable pick + young player(s) to wanting an equal salary match to now requiring the Cavs add value to any trade involving Love has been sadly amazing. Cavs are definitely adding pick(s) + something to get off his contract and in fact we might be a phase beyond that with the disruptive stuff more recently.

If he was a buyout candidate then Portland would take him in a second since the risk is so low at that point.

Has his agent requested permission to pursue a trade?
Or is he afraid of upsetting the clubhouse?

Can he take Cedi with him?

We’re not in cap hell. We have zero dollars committed for 2023-24. We’re not ready to sign a free agent just yet anyway.

We were in cap hell. And that was by signing and trading for role players who made way too much money.

We were in cap hell because we were competing for championships. What are you talking about right now.

I ran this up the flagpole before, and I'll mention it again,,,,,
Maybe the only way to trade Love is to package him with something valuable. So,,,,,

Portland is going nowhere with their present lineup. They are on a treadmill, and not a serious contender in the west.

Here's the framework for a trade.
Love and Sexton for CJ McCollum. The Cavs can add some sweetener if they want.
The dollars work out.

Blazers get a younger, dynamic scorer to replace McCollum. They also get a veteran playoff tested forward, whose specialty is creating space.
The Cavs get a bigger SG, and one of the top players in the upcoming draft.

They're not downgrading talent in the middle of Lillard's prime.

Particularly if they also have to take on Kevin Love's albatross of a deal.

You couldn't get them to trade McCollum for Sexton straight up, let alone with that giant anchor tied to it.

I didn’t realize signing Kevin love after lebron left was a move to compete for a championship.

Spending money on players like tj McConnell and
Bullock is how we got in this cap hell in the first place.

Not sure we are in cap hell. We wouldnt do anything with cap space right now. Sucks watching how Love is playing, but he isnt killing our cap. We will pick another lottery player, got a near max in Drummond off the books already, Prince will be traded at deadline, someone should pick him up for the remainder of his 11 mill, and then Love falls off the following year.

We arent getting free agents, we only are a free agent destination when we are contenders, we are not 1 player away. And for the record MOST cities are only getting free agents when the are contenders, its not special to just Cleveland.

The idea that Love is hurting us financially is false. The fact he has been embaracing on the court is another story.

The only way Love is getting traded is if he can stay healthy and plays real well up to the trade deadline next year. No one is touching his contract this summer without getting draft picks back.

"Signing and trading for role players making too much money" is what you said.

Are you saying you meant re-signing Kevin Love and Kevin Love only?
