Oh wow. No buyout after all. Well he's certainly going to have to up his production and be a better mentor than he's been in recent years, then, especially with the recent Olympic humiliation, as has been mentioned. Maybe there will be more motivation now that he has other bigs to mentor in Mobley and Markkanen. Even if he's only operating from an ego and pride perspective at this point, no one wants to be remembered as the guy who utterly sucked at the end of his career and ate up too much money. He's gotta do better than he's been lately or his modest argument for the HOF will be even less convincing.

He will always be in the hall of fame of your heart and that should be enough right?

Cap people....how does a buyout work? Does whatever he gives up come off our cap? Or, or are we still on the hook for the whole bill?

If it does come off, is it spread out, or can we lump the whole give back into next year to try and open up some space?

Nevermind....question is now irrelevant

Cavs fans on social media kept calling for a buyout driven by spite and a result that only benefits a major media market.

They didn't slow down and ask why the story is pushed so hard.

Why would the Cavs pay a guy good enough to be a third big to play for the Lakers? Why would Love give up guaranteed salary at the end of his career?

Because the Los Angeles media market pushed the story and fanned flames surrounding the gas leak who are Cavaliers fan spite.

Let's see what happens next, but Love in Cleveland and accepting a lesser role off the bench always seemed like a likely scenario.

Please pretty please, do not give him the JR treatment, that would be a dream for him, makes his ass come to every practice, every game, makes his ass live in Cleveland during the season, and let him rack up a ton of DNP, he would either get his game together, or give us the Kemba Walker B/O…….Anything he gives us on the court would be considered a bonus, I’m cool giving him 10/15 minutes a game if one of the big three get in foul trouble, or need a rest……..….

He just watched our management way overpay for his replacement. He’s not leaving until he gets his turn fleecing the Cavs.

He has already fleeced the team. He's got 60 Million the past 2 seasons for playing shitty basketball or sitting out with minor injuries.

Huge expiring's are hard to match up with. Usually teams are trying to get rid of players like Love and those large of contracts are very difficult to match up...see Drummond last year.
No don’t trade him…..let him rot at the end of the bench. Do not reward him. Sit him this year and next (unless he asks for a buyout giving back what the Cavs want) and see how many teams will want a 34 year old injury prone PF that hasn’t played in two years.

He is making 60 million over 2 years, that is an average of 2.5 million a month, or 6 million a month for the 5 months of the season....he is getting rewarded plenty....there isnt a bench in the world i wouldnt sit on for 60 million dollars over 2 years.

No no, I despise him. The shit he pulled with Beilein lost my respect forever. In addition to everything else. I was just curious why he was joining the Olympic team if he doesn’t like basketball anymore. I’m guessing it was some sort of self-serving ego thing, no matter what he said.

Can you remind me what happened with him & Beilein?

running to the media and complaining off the record. Embarrassing Beilein in practices. Undermining his authority.

just being an entitled beach boy descendant asshole.

Not sure why the fans are so into the buyout. What does that do for @CAVS
As a fan I could really care less about the money aspect. I mean if Love makes $300 mil or $290 mil for his career it doesn't effect me. With that said his continued presence in the lockerroom I fear could be a detriment to the team esp now that they have drafted a potential unicorn. I don't think his presence the past 3 years has been positive despite what some players may say publicly. Love has been very undependable and *allegedly* been leaking lockerroom stuff to The Athletic writers too.

Cavs aren't innnocent either..they are the ones who gave him the contract. From the outside it also seems the Cavs org feel like they always have to win these pissing contests with the players. JR, Drummond, KPJ, Love...It's a players' league these days and they aren't going to win these type battles. If I'm the Cavs I stretch waive the last season of his contract after Sept 1 which is going to eat about $9mil of their cap for the next 3 seasons. They can always dump Osman's contract with a pick to some team like OKC next summer if they really need the $9 mil for their cap. That amount is less than the MLE so it won't kill them. It sucks but the Hornets basically did the same thing with Batum last year to kick off the Lamelo era (yes I realized the also needed the capspace to sign Hayward). Call it the cost of doing business or the cost of winning that championship.

The Cavs have an opportunity now for a fresh start with the Mobley era without the Love drama. Now if they hadn't lucked into a potential franchise player in the lottery I'd probably be singing a different tune.
