This is just a better role for him. He can still do stuff, but he has lost enough athleticism going against these athletic starting 4's is going to be very tough defensively. Very often a backup 4 is more traditional guy or just not very good and Love can handle that.

I have to say. There was stretch where Collin and Love were in with Allen and Rubio and maybe Stevens and the Clippers still couldn't score. Mobley is a defensive anchor and is amazing, but the other guys are catching on and realizing they can win games playing D as a TEAM. Even Love was involved.

Very encouraging so far. Keep those min low and let him get some points while he is out there. Having his passing and IQ out there has really helped the bench. He and Rubio are more than we could have hoped for. Strong bench means a lot more wins IMO

Wouldn’t have predicted it, but he’s been fun to watch this season.

I have said the Love hate wasnt fair.

He gets down on himself because he is hurt, he shouldnt give any money up, its his money. He is still aging in dog years, but he tries, he wants to play, he has worked hard to come back, he is probably playing better right now than he will in 30 games, and he does need load management.

But i can never hate the guy, he has stuck around, helped us win a championship and has not complained one bit publicly.

PS, he also always helps the view in the WAGs section.

There should be an all-time Cleveland athletes WAGs section along with player ratings. Jeff Garcia for example would definitely be up there. We could add front office /coaches as well (I.e. Mark Shapiro).

Love was a huge disappointment last season and his first season on the contract. He was far worse than I expected. Some people see the dollar figure and can't see past it, expecting franchise player stats and gravity on the court.

Seeing that Ben is the most plugged in guy on the site, his disgust with Love definitely accelerated the Love hate.

I don't see his performance this year as the surprise - just as I thought his 2019 season before COVID was a reasonable return. Is he a franchise player? No, and he hasn't been one as a Cavalier at any point. He is a strong off ball player who needs the ball moving to have any positive offensive effect. Once Rubio joined and the young players began to share the ball, Love's strengths have become amplified.

I always thought there was something there with Ben's hate, i trust Ben allot, so I agree. I just never saw it and maybe it was mental because of his depression and his body failing him so I gave him a bit of a break. We werent going to be good with him playing well or not, and maybe the fact he was awful helped us luck into Mobley. If thats true, than i am glad he sucked.

I love how they using him, 15 to 20 min off the bench and that should be it, don‘t change even if a front court player get hurt. Even sit him on some back to backs…….Funny part if he was on a top contending team, they would be using him the same way…….

I think he helps our development for this season and into next season; then we either trade him or buy him out next season. If he's playing like he is now there are teams that could use him for a playoff push. Might happen this year but doubtful with that big amount due next year ($29 mil).

Let's see how this thing plays out. As of today, Allen and Mobley are so incredible defensively that Love's main weakness - defensive mobility - more or less gets covered. This is the type of situation where he can be his best self...and we might be that playoff team that can use him.

That logic goes double for Sexton. If he's really not suited to start and has to be a sixth man because that destiny is carved in granite then why not be that guy for us? Instead we have so many people who can't wait to ship him out.

I don't want to stray too far into Sexton in the Love thread, but I suppose his offensive progression is intrinsically tied to every aspect of the offense.

I was ready to either ship Sexton out or bump him to the bench because of his limitations. He pounded the ball and didn't reposition himself for better looks off the ball. The reasons Jordan Clarkson doesn't make an offense better were the same reasons Collin could be considered in a trade.

Now, I'm seeing changes to his game. He is becoming more decisive and getting touches for his bigs. This is a player who can start.

By far my favorite Kevin Love stat - he’s made 19 free throws which ranks him #18 so far, with a lot fewer minutes than the guys ahead of him.

He‘s not just firing up threes. He’s pounding the ball inside and attacking the rim. It’s great to see.

He and Markk haven’t found the range yet on three point shots but they will. That will open up the offense quite a bit.

4/13 at the half. Could he ever be 6/13? Or even better? Smh

The only good thing about Love’s salary is that it helps us avoid even longer money on a bad deal while we wait to see which young guys can play.

Love and Cedi are our last links to the championship teams. Miss those days and very grateful to both (moreso Kevin) for their contributions to the best era of Cavalier basketball ever. I don’t blame Love’s contract on him. Gilbert is to blame for this. We can’t be mad at Kevin for it. Everyone knew he likely wouldn’t age well with his back.

At least he has accepted his bench role for now. I’m sure it’s tough to be on this team at his stage of his career but he has 60 million reasons to tough it out. I believe we only have 18 more months of Kevin. And that assumes no buyout. He really isn’t hampering the team anymore with his new role.

So we thank him for the championship (the Stop) and just wait it out. Dan’s fault not Kevin’s. Remember that.
Exactly!! Who on this board would have said “No Mr Gilbert…..that’s too much money. I can’t accept that contract”

Much more positive from him this season in his general play, and also with a lowered expectation. However the shooting is a major concern, he is getting to his spots and missing, his mins will have to go down if this does not improve.
