Altman has done a great job building this team. I'm pretty sure,he's not done yet.

There has to be another shoe to drop. Right now we have Drummond, Allen, and McGee at center and Okoro, Prince, Cedi, and (later this month) Windler at the 3. There's a logjam at both positions. It makes sense to trade Drummond and either Prince or Cedi for something - maybe another guard in case Porter doesn't get his life together or draft picks.

There are 10 teams playing .600 or above right now. There have been a ton of injuries around the league. If one of the contenders gets hit hard we might be able to move Dre and Prince or Cedi for a couple of first round picks. The Cavs love to accumulate extra picks. They used Milwaukee's first rounder to help get Jarrett Allen.

"To acquire a player of that magnitude, of that age, that’s why we acquired those assets, to have these opportunities," a Cavs spokesman said.

I assume the Cavs will wait until an injury to a key big man on a Finals contender leads to a phone call for Drummond. In the meantime they could use some help at power forward with Love out for a while and likely to get hurt again shortly after returning. Maybe a small trade involving Prince or Cedi for a backup 4 could be found. They need to find some playing time for Windler when he returns.

But until they can work out another trade I could see JBB using Allen or Drummond at the 4 when Nance needs a rest. He's been putting Dre and McGee on the floor together and he seems to like the defensive problems it creates for opponents and the huge advantage on the defensive glass.

I prefer them to trade McGee and Cedi.

As,much I like McGee I'm pretty sure he wants to go to a playoff contender.

Windler is the better shooter and defender..He's been hurt to show it fully...He streamed yesterday(I didnt see it but alot of Cavs fans mentioned it on Twitter) saying he's been shooting with Garland and should be back real soon.

They need to draft Love's replacement...imo

Stay in the upper half of the lottery and draft our young WING moving forward and I love where we're at

PG - Sexton / Garland
SG - Okoro / Porter
SF - 2021 Pick / Windler / Cedi
PF - Nance / FA
C - Allen

That is a very young core and I still think we can extract some value for Drummond / McGee / Love when they're inevitably traded.

Eating my crow. This guy is pretty damn good lately. He fucked up with the Love signing but he's making up for the Kyrie trade.

I don't think Drummond is very tradeable, expiring deal, horrible offense yet he still shoots, and its a big deal, means they have to match salaries. We got him for nothing, maybe we can get a late first and cap relief for him, but that's about it imo.

McGee has some value though, cheap expiring, might help a team with a playoff run, plus he makes 4.2 million, much easier to make salaries work. Maybe him alone gets us a young piece and small filler that is decent, maybe not a starter, but future rotational piece, or him and cedi could equal a nice piece as cedi is on a very favorable contract and part of the log jam at wing.

I think he was forced to sign Love by Gilbert. I know its allot of money, but its not our money and if nothing else showing loyalty to players is great good will to agents and players.

And its not like a rebuilding team in Cleveland will attract big time free agents. Once we are contenders again, we might be able to get one, but not until then.

I think we have or have too adopt the Indians strategy. Build from with in plus a couple of mid level fa signing. Stars are not going to come here

I wonder if he can get a young raw Center for McGee. That would be make sense if a contender has a guy that isn't ready for crunch minutes yet

I was a big-time skeptic and critic of what Koby had done as GM.

Right now, I'm a fan of the core we have. Garland looked like a legitimate NBA starting PG. Sexton can score, and Allen is a great fit at center.

However, we still need to consistently win some games before we declare anything a success.

One thing he has most certainly done is increased the total amount of talent on the team. Their scouts have been good for both acquisitions and drafting so far IMO. It would be impossible to argue that the talent level on this team isn't significantly higher than when LBJ left.

We will only truly find out what we have when we get into meaningful/playoff-like games. When teams are putting everything and everyone into a game or you are in a series, then you find out what level you are truly at. Like against SL. We looked OK for a while, but then Mitchell and company came out the second half and reminded everyone that he/they could take the game over when desired. Do we have guys who can do that? I don’t know. Our talent is obviously getting better, but we won’t know if we have the talent to beat good teams when it matters until we are in that situation.

While Altman has done a nice job so far as to the building of this team, I want to see where he goes from here.
While the idea of getting another high draft spot is appealing, the team needs to be built to win games and get back to the playoffs.

The reaction to this thread when it was initially posted from a lot of us --including from me -- was a big eye-roll. The fact that fortune ended up making him right is pretty hilarious.

You da man, @JJ_PR
