Bernie Kosar, the Browns' quarterback from 1985 to midway through the 1993 season, has been hired as the color commentator for the four preseason games.
"You're going to see me around camp a lot this year to get ready for announcing the games," Kosar said as he walked off the practice field Wednesday after the first practice of training camp. "I know they probably don't want me to announce it yet, but I'm not a very good liar."
Jim Mueller will do the play-by-play, according to sources, but neither hiring has been confirmed by the Browns.
The games are scheduled to be broadcast on WOIO, but the Browns and the network are currently involved in a dispute in which the team is trying to break their three-year broadcasting contract.
Kosar is taking a wait-and-see attitude regarding Charlie Frye.
"I'm the kind of person who likes to study something for a while before I comment on it," he said. "He's looking good, but he should look good because there's no one banging on him yet."
