Phoenix didn't want to clear space for JJ. But their dilemma was the fact that if they signed JJ, they would be over the cap for centuries and not have a big man to complement Amare, and they needed one now. By trading Q, they got a big man in return and got rid of a future cancer. Now, Q is in NYK where he probably belongs. His value was lessened by the fact that every playoff game, Q was the head towel waver in the 4th. His play was acceptable in the regular season, but when it really comes down to it, he's not really an asset to any team.
So, they did the right thing and traded the worst player in their starting 5. They got exactly what they needed too, because Isiah Thomas is by far the worst executive ever. Getting Kurt Thomas is key.
And, I mentioned that they don't have depth: I guess they actually do.
Leandro Barbosa is young and good, he'll probably be something big in the league in a few years. Kinda like Nash was when he was behind Kidd, now it seems like the same.
Stephen Hunter fits in well with the system. He's also young and plays well off the bench. He'll learn a lot from Kurt Thomas.
Jimmy Jackson is a journeyman, but still a good role player. Good vet leadership and does what he needs to do.
They only need to sign a couple more players with the MLE and they'll be significantly more serious about a title run than this year.
Not to forget the fact that they got a future first rounder from the silly Knicks. I'm glad I don't live in New York to see my sports teams take the wrong turn.
