Will be interesting to see how he fares when he is probably the only player in Team Finland (the "Wolfpack") who the opponents will have a game-plan for, while he also should provide leadership to the team (during his NBA years he hasn't known to be very loud on court), both on offense and defense.
Team Finland will play a couple practice matches with Lauri on the team(for example, next week in Lauri's hometown Jyväskylä, where Team Finland hasn't played for decades, so one should expect a hysterically fanatic crowd cheering for their hometown boy) before EuroCup launches (Finlands first match will be against Israel on September 2nd). The previous practice matches the past couple weeks didn't go so well for Team Finland, as Lauri hadn't joined the team yet, should be cool to see how he can integrate into the team, and how his team-mates will welcome the superhero of the team (because in Team Finland, that is exactly what Lauri Markkanen is).

No problems, just pronounce it like it is spelled! Me, being from Sweden, have no problems with the "ä"s in the name. Is there any other letters you have a problem with?
By the way, my brother in law also is a Markkanen. His cousin Pekka is the father of Lauri but also father of Eero Markkanen, a famous soccer player.

If you would ask plane/train/bus ticket to "Yew as cool, ah!" you would get a ticket to Jyväskylä. Wouldn't be exactly correct pronounced, but close enough to be understood by any finn.

By the way, Pekka blocked Shaq during NCAA season 1989-90. And I have heard that Pekka said about 1990: Finns will never EVER play in NBA. Hanno Möttölä and Erik Murphy had short career but it´s funny that his own son really PLAYS there. (maybe Pekka´s "comment" was an urban legend)

He actually doesn't say SF is new for him (because it isn't, he played as SF before heading to college in USA where he mostly played PF, and only in some games as SF). In the article he says it has been different to play as SF, instead of PF or C which he did play for four years with Bulls, and it took a while to adjust (for example, not playing with back to basket on offense as he often had to do with Bulls). He has this summer focused on practising ballhandling (ie dribbling and passing skills) as those are expected from a SF, and that has given him a fun new physical spark.
