Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
because the SG - PF positions are a mess. our two PFs are injured and we have an SG in sexton who is shorter than ideal. so the SG to PF spots needs to be manned by guys who are mostly SG or SF, hence having mismatches all over.

The cavs cant keep trotting th small ball lineup(3 guards, forward and a big) if the guards are not willing to take 3's at a high rate. Sexton, Garland, and to an extent Okoro, needs to be unconscious in taking 3pt shots.

Okoro had 1 rebound again.

Our starting sf barely manages two a game.

None of the guys we draft as knockdown shooters are actually good shooters. Its remarkable.

This team shouldnt have such a hard time making 3s because Garland and Windler should be making 3-4 a game and yet....they can't.

That "feel good" feeling that many of us had around the time of the two Nets games seems like a distant memory.

When Nance went out, it threw off our balance. He was playing at all defensive team levels. Until Nance or Love come back, it’s hard to know what we have.

Essentially Garland, Windler, and Okoro are all rookies in my eyes. With the supporting cast around them lacking, it’s going to be ugly for a while.

The problems started before Nance went out.

The tide started to turn in the Knicks game.

The defense started turning before that, against BKN. But the Knicks game is where this started to head South.

If you could magically make Garland, Sexton, and Okoro 3-4 inches taller, the Cavs record would be exactly the same. Most of the time this team doesn't even contest shots on the outside, so it wouldn't matter if they were ten feet tall. And that's shown by the fact that the defense is still awful even when those guys aren't on the floor.

Early in the season the game plan was to overplay passing lanes and let the centers deal with shots at the rim. Teams adjusted to that, and I have to assume that Bickerstaff is trying to adjust too, and the players look lost. Maybe if they had time to practice new concepts it would help. Maybe Bickerstaff is just an idiot. But the defense looks confused and a step slow the last few weeks.

It seems to me our defense was at its best when Garland and Sexton were out and we had a front line of Nance, Drummond and Okoro along with Cedi and Dotson playing guard. To me, Nance has been the guy that has held everything together and when we lost him the last 10 games, everything has fallen apart. That plus Cedi's shooting slump has killed us.

I think there is something to this and JBB has made it worse with the lineup choices he’s made trying to adjust. We’ve had too many guys playing out of position or in lineups that just won’t work. Like it or not, we have to use our entire roster - that’s why they are there and everyone in the NBA can play. For example, Wade is not one of our best players, but against Denver we needed a real 4 and he would have been better than making Allen or Drummond chase 3 point shooters or small guys going against Porter and Millsap. It might not have worked any better, but by doing what he’s doing, he’s forcing all of our guys to try and excel outside of what they do well.

Jesus yall are some "in the moment" Debbie Downers...

This team wasn't expected to compete for the playoffs before they beat the Nets twice. That same Nets team has lost to the Pistons, Wizards and Bulls (I think?) since. The reactions many here have now aren't even on par with what teams that are *actually* underachieving (Miami, Toronto, Orlando, Dallas) are going through. Why is that? Why are Cavaliers fans, whose team was expected to be close to where they are now, reacting more negatively than Heat/Raptor/Magic/Maverick fans?

This team is wildly incomplete, incredibly young, ravaged by covid/injuries and in the middle of a rebuild. We don't have a young Lebron, but we have good parts that need time and experience to grow from. There's no less than 7 guys on the roster that I want another 1-2yrs of to see what they can become together; and I'm kinda looking forward to what they might be.

Yeah absolutely. The idea too, that the team wasn't going to face adversity was always a pipe dream. A young team very rarely just gets good. This part of the schedule was circled by a lot of us from the very beginning as one where you might not get any wins.

Lakers, Wolves, Bucks first game, Clippers and Suns were at least someone competitive. Yeah good teams pull away from the Cavs sometimes in the 4th when their stars take over. It is no big surprise. That Suns game was great. They missed some shots.

To me, the biggest problem is that the lineups aren't working when they were before. I can see Drummond is not defending like he was. He should be pulled when that is happening.

I do think Wade should be played. Prince is not really a good defender, and it is why I don't want him replacing Isaac in the SL.

The bench is not playing well and they don't have a pg. That is a problem. I really wish Delly were healthy, I think it would change the whole game.

They need a chance to reset, but this is the NBA and that is not happening for awhile. The team's confidence is down and it is affecting their defense. I am sure the Drummond stuff is a part of it. He is straight pouting often. Love coming back will be a welcome relief. I'd much rather run the offense through him than Drummond.

Way too much rational discussion in here. The purpose of this thread is to rant. Read post #1 for the general idea. In fact read the first 20 posts or so - many are hilarious.

Rant thread. Okay.

The Cavs will never be anything more than a 7/8 seed in the East for the foreseeable future.
The NBA is a joke anymore. It’s ran by the players and Commissioner Silver is a pussywillow.
