Why are we surprised?
We have needed a center for years now. We knew Love/Kyrie would struggle to marginal defenders, much less plus defenders.
Lebron is 30 years old now. We saw it with Kobe. The defense starts to tail off from the All-NBA level. One of the arguments for keeping Wiggins was that it would extend Lebron's career by giving him someone to chase around the other teams best player.
In many ways this is playing out exactly as it looked like it would on paper this summer.
We have no athletes. I am over these small fry non-athlete guards that have no length.
We have no center, no defensive enforcer, and no identity.
Let this be a lesson to all about the need to draft big when you're picking high in the draft.
Chris Grant is gone, but his odious legacy still lives with us every night we trot a line-up out there that doesn't include a difference making big.
Griffin, in his infiinite wisdom chose to double down on the "size makes no difference" mentality and did nothing in the off-season to address a predictably glaring need.
Andy was always out of position as a center, so while his injury hurt our front line depth it doesn't take away from the argument that even with him we needed a center.
I said in the game thread, Chicago was the luckiest team of all.
They struck out on the loser "superstars" (Melo & Love) and had to "settle" for Paul Gasol on a contract that pays him peanuts.
That was the kind of player we needed. A big that has actually won something in their career.
Love is literally starting to look like a poor man's Melo as far as just not being a winning player. Stuff's the sheet, but that's all.
We have too many of the low IQ, "losing" type players on our team. No heart and no guts. I am freaking tired of it.
