Meant Chauncey.

I happened to be talking to somebody who mentioned how nice this team would have been this year had Diggs still been around, it's a shame. He would have played a huge role this year. Poor timing.

Tough draw for the Zips to get VCU without a PG. Can probably bet on Harney not bringing the rock up much in the first round.
Definite tough draw with their strength vs our weakness. Very intriguing match up though with mentor vs protege.

VCU is a near lock to win that game.

Guess we shouldnt even go then. Maybe you didnt know, but VCU only beat us by 1 last year in OT.
Their strength vs our weakness.
Our strength vs their weakness. Will be a very interesting game.

New to March Madness? There are very few locks or even near locks in the tournament. Akron has a good chance to win. Will they? I don't know...but they certainly have a shot.

Geesh...embarrassing.

Just shows the discrepancy of talent between a regular mid major and a high mid major when it comes to athletes.

Well, 2 key players got sick, Ibitayo got hurt leaving one pg on the roster, and no Pablo Abreu really hurt too. It was going to be a hard game for Akron to win in the first place, they had no shot once that happened.

Ohio U wouldn't have put up a fight against VCU either

I told you all Akron still had a shot at winning the MAC tourny when their resident alleged pot dealer got busted.

I agree, but disagree. With Christian, you're probably right. However, if they still had Groce it would be a different story. Just shows how big coaching is.

They wouldn't have lost by 40+, but that's neither here nor there. Fact is, Akron had a lot of stuff going on that attributed to the blowout.

Either way, maybe the MAC should just designate OU as their conference rep? Best chance they'd have at winning a game.

Ohio should focus on what they are going to do to rebuild a team that's losing their second best player ever with no viable replacement in sight.

I have zero faith in your coach...which doesn't bode well for the MAC. As a conference, I would prefer to see Akron, Kent, Ohio, Miami and Toledo do great. I like rooting for the Ohio schools.

And Akron is losing probably their best big man ever if I remember correctly.

They are. Luckily, they have what is considered their one of, if not their best overall recruiting class in program history.

It starts with BJ Gladden, a 6'5", 185 lb wing who passed up offers from Tennessee, Wake Forest, and VCU, among others to come play for Keith Dambrot. His uncle, LeBron Gladden (not joking...that's his name) played for Dambrot when he was coaching with Ashland. Gladden is a BCS-caliber athlete and should compete for minutes immediately.

Isiah Johnson is next, a 6'9", 275 lb center who passed up on Xavier, Ohio, and Kent State to come to UA. He was named AP Division I first-team all-state on is the Southwest District player of the year. He should contribute as Pat Forsythe's backup immediately.

The Zips also added size in 6'8", 210 lb Kwan Cheatham. Cheatham will likely redshirt next season, but is said to have a ton of upside to his game.

Finally, Akron added Aaron Jackson, a 6'5", 185 lb wing who passed up Ohio and Toledo in favor of Akron. Jackson is a great athlete who will also likely redshirt next season.

The biggest additions will come from experienced players being added to the roster.

First, it's likely that Quincy Diggs will be back for his senior season. Second, they've added JUCO point guard Nyles Evans, shown here playing against several current Zips.

The depth chart will likely look like this:

C-Pat Forsythe/Isaiah Johnson
PF-Demetrius Treadwell/Nick Harney
SF-Jake Kretzer/Reggie McAdams
SG-Quincy Diggs/BJ Gladden
PG-Nyles Evans/Carmelo Betancourt

With OU losing so many important players and Kent losing both Evans and Holt, Akron should be the pre-season favorite to be the last team standing in Cleveland once again in 2014.

Diggs and Treadwell would be welcomed. Forsythe is going to need to make a big step next year.

Not too enamored with the SF depth. Dambrot seems to have a way to develop PG's, though. Even Betancourt wasn't bad until the VCU game.

Easily the most talented MAC roster next year, though.
