So its about time for me to get a new computer. Im on the fence on whether to get a Mac or a PC. PC's are definitely more popular it seems. There's more video games for them, and the internet seems more tailored to PC's. But i think Macs might be making a comeback. Ive heard they're designed better, and have better security. But Im worried my options would be limited with a Mac. I dunno, computers cost a lot of money so I want to make an informed choice. If anyone wants to weigh in on the great Mac/PC debate I welcome any comments.

Apple's computer is designed better. The overall quality of all the hardware as well as the software is better on a mac. Plus, you are already a vivid iMac user, why switch up to an infested PC?

I recommend the new version 17' iMac. Plug and play, you don't need to hook anything up except the keyboard and mouse. And it already comes with more ram and storage than most crappy PC's out there.

Comes with a built in web cam, keyboard and a brand new mighty mouse. Also has bluetooth built in internally so you can use wireless hardware.

And the most important thing, you will never EVER have a virus.

Come on Glen can you honestly say that?

The reason PC's get viruses more than macs is because they are the most popular and widely used macchine. Hackers would we be wasting time messing with virus's for macs because probably 80% of all businesses use pc.

I like both for different reasons. And I am glad there is such strong competition between the two because as a consumer I get cooler toys!

Here is one article pertaining to this mac myth.

Who says macs cant get viruses?

LOL, they must beleive all those apple supported facts that get published. Look people, I do tech support. I have seen OSX macs with virueses. So, dont say they cant get viruses. I have let a mac user cuss me blue up and down and tell me how stupid i am because macs cant get viruses. Then he runs his little used antivirus program, and lo and behold, he has a virus!

Seriously though, Windows needs better security from the average idiots. But, my feeling is, its like the firefox issue. As more people start using macs, the more people will look to write viruses/spyware that will affect macs.

Remember people, 90% of virus/spyware writers are doing it for the money they can make selling information. Or to further annoy Windows Users.

Of course that's the reason PC's have virus's. Their users are more prone to obtain them then the normal Mac user would. And the majority of computer users are pretty much PC users. You got these YOUNG kids downloading music, and looking at porn. They wouldn't think twice if they're getting into a trap to get a virus.

Most hackers would really be waisting their time coding to get into a Mac system when they already have access to do so on millions of PC machines.

I've heard that there is a "FEW" virus' out there on a Mac, but you have to be a complete idiot to get them.

Good stuff fellas. Im kinda in the dark with this computer stuff. Why would anyone spend their time making viruses anyways? Some people are just mean. Its funny, the Mac / PC debate is very heated, like the Cavs vs the Bucks...:chuckles:

Just walk into the Apple store in Legacy village. You will probably end up opening your wallet after 5 minutes being in the store.

I have a iBook G4 Mac (laptop) AND a PC.

Cons first:

iBook G4 Mac-Not many games. A few little issues with Excel that I don't have a solution to. But I did not really look for any. Pricey.

PC-I have to worry about viruses everyday. Have to run virus protection. Always have to upgrade for PC gaming.

Overall Cons= I don't really have anything important besides the viruses on PC.

Pros:

iBook G4 Mac-EVERYTHING! Where do I begin. No viruses. No crashing. I have only restarted my Mac only 2-3 times in its whole entire life span. Great durability. 5 years old. I have dropped my laptop from the bed and it still worked fine. NO UPGRADING. User Interface looks and operates great. Programs kick ass. There just isn't any BS on the Mac. Everything is build perfectly.

PC-Games. Cheap. Believe it or not, but I build a Gaming PC for $600. I can run games like Battlefield 2, Doom 3, and Half-Life 2 fine. Great software support. Most popular.

Advice: Get the new Intel Macs. They run Mac's OS X and PC's Windows. They are just like any other Mac, but they run both. You need to run a Window's program? It'll do it no problem. So the new Macs get have the best of both worlds.

WARNING: There are and can be viruses for Macs. But they are very few RIGHT NOW. But as the popularity of the Macs grow, so will the viruses for Macs. Its not that there can't be viruses for Mac. Oh no, they can get viruses too, but its just that the hackzor community has a grudge with Bill Gates and Windows.

Give us a price range and I'll give you some recommendations.

In a couple of years, I am getting this: Perfect blend of size, speed, and looks.

gallery-big-07.jpg

2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1440 x 900 pixels
2GB memory
120GB hard drive1
6x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

$2,499.00

This comes with the built-in camera also. Pretty much, all then new Macs do.

Doesn't really matter what you get. Quality of hardware on both is same the only downfall is that Windows sucks ass. If you get a Mac you won't have as much support as if you were to buy a PC. Although Mac's are starting to gain some momentum its still not at the level where it needs to be. I would get a PC if i were you but thats only because i am comfortable with a PC and i don't really care for that mouse the Mac has but if thats what you are used to then go for what you know.

I have a PC, I'm using it to hold up my bed because my bed frame lost a leg last month.

Actually, not really. As I explained Macs keep their value for a loooooooong period of time.

And when I said in a couple of years, it might be closer to a year and a bit. And when I said I wanted that one, I did not mean that I wanted this year's version. Apple does not change their products much. And when they do, its a radical chance to their internal hardware. So that laptop will pretty much stay the same for a couple of years with minor hardware changes.
