I had a great time doing them in college (tried them like 3 or 4 times). Definitely be in a good environment with people you trust and you should be fine. I always put my shrooms in a cup with orange juice (someone told me that drinking orange with it helps with the trip.. no idea if that's true, but it was college so I did it) and that kinda helped keep it down. You definitely have to get past the queasy phase, because those suckers dont taste great and can be hard to keep down. Once you keep them down, sit back and relax. I never watched Parks and Recs before, but when I thought the trip was going bad, I put that randomly on tv and my mood shifted. I was so happy and couldn't stop smiling. I forgot all the stress I felt and just felt relaxed.
I've tried grinding it and soaking it in lemon juice, as it's supposed to help it take effect faster. Anecdotally, I feel like it did. The other way I tried it was wrapping it in a fruit roll up, which was far more effective for masking the taste.
