Bare bones edition since I didn't think about posting it yesterday!

Williams goes on 5/16 though!

I was watching the game pete and he got squeezed pretty good on a couple of strikes up in the zone with his FB, but his command was a bit off. The hits that I saw off of Gavin were duck snorts that extended the inning where he gave up those 2 runs.

He didn't have his stuff, but the runs were off of luck hits in all honesty... He's also has been walking a lot more since hitting AAA, 4.6 per 9 but his SO has been the same. He's still got some work on his command...

I missed the game. But, when CleGuardPro says that they are missing command and CDAV says they were being squeezed, we got to remember that in AAA the game is being called by the computer during the weekday games. Thus, when computer is set to call anything on the line as a ball, it does seem like the pitcher may be squeezed. Same thing with Bibee before his call up.

Yet, in honesty, it looked like he had his normal (if not better) accuracy last night but the chase rate was down - so had fewer overall strikes as hitters were more patient. I woud assume too that when his fastball was more middle of the zone as w last night versus going upper zone for strikes that chases go down as when he has the 2-2 counts, where he could then go up out of zone and get chases when living upstairs already. But, when he was middle of zone and go out of zone it is a lot less deceiving due to height contrast. In last week's game where he got 10ks, he had 57% chase rate on is FB vs 32% last night (but also zone swings on FB were down 70% vs 53%). And, again, if an ump (computer) isn't calling boarder line pitches, guys are less likely to swing anyways. However, the interesting fact is that he threw more pitches in the zone last night than the prior outing where he had the 10ks.

out of 82 pitches last night, 40 where in strike zone

In his prior outing with 10 ks, only 36 of 91 pitchers were in the strike zone

In the last outing, he threw a lot more changeups, I wonder if he was working on it or just didn't have it the start before?

Whatever, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that he is an option for the Guardians' rotation immediately if need be. There isn't a need right now so he'll probably continue to pitch in Columbus until the 2nd half anyway.

Just interesting as he gets promoted a few weeks before we add back players. I doubt they send a (qualified - legit) player back to AA but Williams, Cantillo, Plesac, Gaddis and 2 more starters not even named Morris when McK and Civale come back is too much? Something has to give. Leaving Cantillo in AA would have made things easier. But, it does put him on track to be considered a starter for next year. Trades have to be coming.

Releasing Norris any day if you ask me. Adam Scott could go as well.

Those are the easy ones that they were holding them for (placeholders) which I wasn't going to insult anyone's intelligence on.

Yet, will they go 6-7 starters in Williams, Cantillo, Plesac, Gaddis are 4 main ones now. But, if Morris gets stretched as a starter (he is 5 or if BP and Curry comes down he is 5). Then you have the mess of Battenfield for Civale (next one back - seems to be ahead of McK with rehab start tomorrow) and whoever comes down when Mck comes back who are will then be your 6 and 7 AAA starters. Who do you get rid of then? No one deserves a AA demotion. It would have been easier to keep Cantillo down and you had your 5-6 starter positions. Yet, Cantillo is pushing this group too. You have to trade 1-2 by early June or starters are going to wither on the vine (only option is have Morris go 4 inning as a piggy back to someone - then you have 6 starters which you can do but not ideal as they are learning to pitch on the 7th day vs 5th or 6th day - needed to build stamina for MLB when their time comes).

It also depends on how Morris, TMac and Civale look once they are back and healthy. Williams may not make the big league club this season...

AA has not been kind to Jack Leftwich so far... Hopefully he is able to rebound and didn't just run into the "wall".

AA is the first big hurdle and a lot of prospects have to face... Hence why how you do at AA says if you deserve a big league chance...
