MLB 2022 regular season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

José Ramírez, Guardians - Many players here were easy inclusions. This might've been the easiest. Watching him play on a daily basis is such a joy. Viewing his stat sheet matches that joy. The Guardians haven't even played 60 games yet, but he has 18 doubles, four triples, 16 homers, 62(!) RBI, 38 runs and 10 stolen bases. Oh, and he's walked 34 times compared to only 17 strikeouts. Are you kidding me?

Ali Sanchez is a defense first backstop.. a lot like Hedgie.. but not as good defensively (arms, block and pop times are about the same) but he really can't hit.. if the Guards lost one of Maile/Hedgie..he'd be an adequate defensive replacement.. and might not be as horrific with the lumber as Hedgie..

Worthy of a discussion.. not Amed level, though.. Sanchez would be more of a throw in, type..

Well why not get Ali since he still has an option this season and have him as Lava's backup in AAA and next season at the bigs... DFA Yohan Ramirez for Ali Sanchez...

Ramirez wouldn't need / shouldn't be DFA'd..

Ali Sanchez wouldn't be the back up..

The Guardians cherish/covet defense first back stops... That is something Lavas doesn't have an advantage over Sanchez..

Who are the catchers next season? At the moment we only have Lava and Naylor. My point is to get Ali and have him as the backup for Lava until Naylor is ready...

IDK who the starter is next season.. tbh.. he may not be on any cleveland/cleveland minor league system roster right now..

On paper I am planning on Lava and Lava needs a backup, so thats the way I am planning in the roster...

Why are you skipping over Bo Naylor?? It can be argued he is handling a better overall pitching staff in Akron & until this year he was constantly ranked/rated ahead of Bryan L.

On top of that Bo needs to be added to the 40 man after this season & his performance this season makes that a lock to happen..

IIRC Bimbo noted a few weeks ago that the org wants both Bryan L & Bo Naylor catching a majority of the time this season. For me that explains why Bo is still at Akron (so both are catching a majority of games)..

Agree with this...

Bo's bat can be explosive.. no doubt.. but how he manages the games.. how he blocks & frames.. and most of all, how he inspires confidence in the hurlers 60 feet 6 inches away give him the best chance to have a "winged-G" on his sleeve..

We'll see..

I will say it this way, before the season started with the bad 21 by Naylor, I put Lava as the starter in 22 and them together in 23. Now that could honestly all change by the end of the season.

How do you split these guys up if they are both playing together in 22? We don't have a third catcher at the moment on paper. Are we resigning Hedges as the backup? Are we getting someone to mix in? It doesn't hurt us to have a defensive minded backup catcher in the mix next season with these two. One wins the starting spot, the other goes to AAA for another season.

I've gone through all the scenarios in my head, internally, if we don't bring in a catcher, who is our third catcher? Who else are we adding to the 40 man/who will have if we need them at AAA?

Some interesting player movements today.

1. Alex Kirilloff - recalled by the Twins as Polanco goes on the IL. Kirilloff was killing it in AAA and if he can solidify that next step.. That's no good for us.
2. Riley Greene - is reported to be receiving his 1st call up as well for the Tigers. A top 5ish prospect in all of baseball at the onset of the 2022 season, he obviously is "expected" to be a quality player... We'll see. He takes Austin Meadow's spot who is now on the Covid list...
3. Justin Upton - gets called up by Seattle, likely to play his former team tonight. Wasn't playing well and I wouldn't be surprised if he is DFA'd in the next 2-10 days.. Guess it will depend on his MLB play. Old friend Sam Haggerty shipped back to Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Haniger has begun baseball activities.. swinging..running.. etc.. It won't be long before he's going to be back.. like immediately after the M's decide to DFA J-Up..
