I don't think a lot of these guys are ever going to learn defense. They were fine with that skillset, and they are paying for that skillset. FWIW there are supposedly 5 teams with worse defense than theirs, including the Phillies who are probably making the playoffs.

I think a change of scenery will do this kid a lot of good so I'd be cautious about cancelling him at this moment.

I don't see why a rebuilding team, wouldn't bring him in... If he makes it through waivers, there is something more off the field/on the mental side that says his mental side is the reason why he has failed as a player.
