Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I keep coming back to the fact that Myles just got taken off the suspension list. He has no benefit bringing this up again if it was not true. He should be distancing himself from this incident and hoping it turns into an out of sight, out of mind thing. He's a smart enough guy to figure this out. He would not arrange for an interview where he knows he is going to say this if it weren't a fact.

I believe Mason Rudolph would say something like that, and have zero reason to not believe he said it in this instance, but I'm REALLY hoping theres proof to back it up. You have a black coach from one of the most respected franchises in sports backing up his QB now. I hope Myles is either proven right, or this goes away quickly, cause it can go south for him, if not.

This will be forgotten. Too much negative news designed to keep everyone talking for it not to be.

How much do you guys think about Jussie Smollett right now? George Zimmerman? Anthony Weiner?

I’m just going farther and farther back with random controversial figures you didnt think about until I brought them up. George Zimmerman obviously doesn’t compare to the other two...but you forgot about him.

You’ll forget about this in two weeks.

FTR I dont know or care if he said it. Nobody should want to hurt somebody with that word and consider whats packaged up into it. Nobody should hit somebody with a helmet.

Thing 2 definitely happened. Thing 1 might have happened but shouldn’t. Best thing that could he taken from this is that neither thing should happen and people continue to recognize how bad the news cycle is for them and how it’s stacked against all of us.

ESPN is a force for the net negative. They know it. You probably feel it when you watch or read their content. Question is whether you care and want to continue to support it and take the negativity they pound out and put that shit on other people after you read/ view it.

If anyone knows of a major news source that is an exception, I’m down to hear about it.

The NFL who tried to bury CTE certainly would cover up a white player calling a black player the n word on the field.

They couldn't have that right after the Kaepernick situation.

It would be much worse for the NFL if a coverup was exposed than simply revealing the truth and punishing Rudolph. The risk of something like that leaking out is significant. Some other player will eventually talk, or someone who heard the NFL tape with the slur would leak it, etc..

My guess is that if it was said, it was said in a way that only Garrett heard it. So there just isn't any "proof" one way or the other.

My thoughts on the scenario:

For Myles's sake, I want to believe that he is telling the truth. Reacting in that manner and then ruining Rudolph's reputation to help justify his behavior is absolutely abhorrent behavior, if Rudolph never said the N word.

For humanity's sake, I want to believe that Mason Rudolph is telling the truth. He grew up in Rock Hill, SC which has a population (from a quick google search) of 39% African-American . He spent 4 years at Oklahoma State and 1-1/2 years in the NFL. I would guess the rosters in each those 6 seasons were majority African-American. We cannot know Rudolph's upbringing for sure, but someone who grew up in that environment especially should know to never use that word. But from Myles's violent reaction, we know that people can act out of character or perhaps slip back into the character that they're hiding in highly emotional moments.

I find it strange that Myles did not bring it up immediately and no one else corroborated until well after the fact. By the same account, I understand why he would want to "guard" that information.

I believe that if the NFL had audio of Rudolph saying the N word that they would absolutely do everything in their power to suppress it.

We will likely never know for sure.

THERE'S NO OTHER REASON FOR PEOPLE TO BE RIDING THIS HARD FOR MASON FREAKIN RUDOLPH FOLKS!!!!!
I’m sure most of these posts will be deleted, but I think there’s a very obvious reason you’re missing: they genuinely believe he is innocent.

This is the kind of thing that can ruin his entire career and livelihood as well as his reputation. If you truly believe he did not say it, your reason for riding this hard for Mason should be the same as your reason as riding this hard for ANY other human being. Because you don’t want to see their career and reputation destroyed by something you believe to be a false accusation.

I think you’re trying to make this into a hush hush conspiracy and not just realizing that this is an extremely serious accusation against Rudolph that would very likely end his career. That’s why people are defending him.

I truly believe so

That's understandable. It should be noted that former Steelers backup Landry Jones is now one of the faces of the XFL. The way I've seen people talk about Rudolph being out of the league I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there too.

I know and that's why I brought up Landry Jones. Another recent Steelers backup QB. Not trying to make this a conspiracy but just pointing out that there are clear differences that have not been brought up and I think when it does we'll have that discussion. It is what it is right now though.

I wouldn't say that Rudolph is innocent. There just isn't enough information to know for sure one way or the other. You had a lot of other players around there, and none of them claimed to have heard it. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it does mean that we're left with an uncorroborated allegation in circumstances where you'd think there would be some corroboration. And if the other players didn't hear it...why are so many people certain that "the NFL" did?

If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to guess, I'd believe Garrett. But you can't punish Rudolph for this given the complete lack of corroboration.
