Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He’s certainly got to improve on the penalties, but I just want to maintain perspective that

ok then discuss it. Bring something to the table. Because for a while now you’ve posted nothing but one liners that are critical of Mayfield and the team

And don’t play dumb. Pretty much every one of your posts is a personal affront against the Browns. You can pull the “who, me?! I’m just stating the facts!” All you want but it’s incredibly transparent

When you actually try you bring great analysis. What you’ve been doing lately is every bit what you get on posters in the Indians section for

Anyway, I agree that Garrett needs to clean up his penalties. But that was the only thing being discussed. I wanted to put in perspective he has looked every bit like the best edge in the NFL through 2 weeks. And the numbers reflect it.

If an offsides a game is the price to pay for Myles being one of the most disruptive players in the league, I’ll pay it. I’d obviously prefer the best of both worlds, but if his timing of the snap is that critical and every once in a while it results in an offsides so be it. The 15 yarders are my bigger area of concern

But again, playing like the best edge in the NFL at the age of 23.... so yeah

You can be disruptive and not lead the league in penalties.

That’s pretty much the argument, but if you’re going to cry about people wanting him to stop being penalized, I don’t know what to tell you.

Dial it back, be a bit less emotional, and realize that nobody is claiming Garrett to be anything other than a monster who desperately needs to be more consistent at abiding by the rules of the game.

Dude had two personal fouls and has lead the league in Offsides penalties for two years.

I'm sorry discussing it offends your delicate sensibilities. It needs to be corrected.

Not everything is a personal affront toward or against the franchise, get a hold of yourself.

Yes he needs to clean it up, but I wouldn't want him to lose that aggressiveness either if it means fixing the penalties. Teams are going to fear this guy and if he keeps this up going to have to overload him to stop him, making the opposing offense have to keep one less in receiving and more openings on the other side in a sense. I would rather lose cause a guy was too aggressive than lose cause a guy was conservative and dialed back his natural skill to avoid penalties.

Myles is the last player on this team to be worried about. The offsides penalties get a bit annoying, but it happens.

Roughing the passer is a broken rule in the NFL (like many others), there's really not much he can do about that. Anyone who watches NFL on a single Sunday can see it's a broken rule.

I can only hope he doesn't change anything to try to abide by a broken rule.

He is getting so many roughing penalties because he is hitting the qb allot. As long as they are not blatant and they are in the area of judgement call I can live with it. He is hitting them within one step and in the torso, not sure he can do anything better

So you think those really are rough penalties. The refs told him he wasn't late, just hitting the qb to high. But he is hitting the qb in the shoulders, not the head, what is he supposed to do? How is he supposed to clean that up and still hit the qb?>

Myles has led the NFL in offsides once. He had 6 last year to lead the league. He had a total of 47 penalty yards last year, not even ranking in the top 50 in the NFL

He already eclipsed that in 2 weeks this year.

Myles in 2017 had 35 penalty yards and 2 offsides.

Over the span of 27 games before this year he averaged 3 penalty yards per game. This year he is averaging 25 per game

I’m more inclined to go with the 27 game sample size of the last 2 years than this 2 week sample size.

I think this is being blown up to problem levels when I think it’s more random noise

Myles is hitting the qb at an insane amount this year. One thing has to happen first to get a roughing penalty, you have to hit the qb. Simple math, the more qb hits you get, the more roughing penalties. Half the roughing penalties are really bullshit calls these days.

So you have to decide, do we get less roughing penalties and miss out on his disruption, or realize the league has a huge roughing the qb issue.

Say that next time, instead of whining that someone who calls out the fact that Garrett has committed a ton of penalties this year just secretly hates the Browns based on how they view the Indians.

It's just going to make you better in the long run.

Pouring one out for Derrick Thomas, what might have been. (also sad to see Reggie on the list who also left us way to early)

Yeah DT left us too early - he could have 10 more baby mommas.

I think the PF are annoying but that's NFL pass rushing. Bradley Chubb had one of the worst RtP calls in recent memory and honestly, I don't think either Chubb or Garrett were really good roughing calls.

I would like to see the screen grabs of the Garrett offsides calls. I don't think he is really offsides, I think he just has otherwordly athletic ability with a perfect timing and NFL refs aren't used to seeing it.

He is offsides, I always slow down and look.

And 100% agree on that Chubb call, was watching it and couldn't believe they called that.

And Booger was whining about how back Myles roughing calls were when they happened and later in the game he said Myles has to clean up his roughing calls. SO which is it Booger? lol Stupid announcers with stupid names.

Can’t find a gif of the roughing calls. Would like to see a couple if possible. I’ve gotten responses stating that the calls were questionable but one of them I was pretty confident he was blatantly late; and while I understand momentum will carry you to contact, he didn’t have to drive through.

Totally willing to admit an incorrect analysis in real time as I don’t recall the instant replay since I’m typically doing some sort of half-ass studying or homework while watching.

Neither were about be late, both were because he hit them high (not head, but shoulder) and ended up putting his full weight on them. But how do you avoid putting full weight if you are not pile driving them into the ground, that should be good enough.
