Need some help planning my trip to the US

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
About an hour and a half from the Q going straight down 77. You can thank traffic for that amount of time.

Almost time.. I'm way too excited! Another quick one: we don't have transfers from the airport to my hotel in Cleveland. A cab the best way to go at 7pm to arrive? And if so, how much does a cab from the airport to downtown cost roughly?

If it's 6-10 miles its $25...10-15 it's $35. There's also trains that leave every 15 minutes that drop you off at Tower City. Depending on traffic, taxi or train will get you there in 20-30mins.

Thanks Max. The hotel (Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade) offers $43 transportation one way but it's all sorted for you. Maybe thinking considering it's the first night and I don't want to get lost/confused, it might be better to pay that and have it organized? Or am I getting ripped off?

You wouldn't be saving that much to offset the peace of mind you will have using the Hyatt's service.

i take the train from the airport. get off at terminal tower. Hyatt is a short walk. The train is usefuland pretty easy to figure out. The main line runs parallel to the lake (east-west) and right under Terminal tower.

generally a gps (imaps, google maps) is a good idea in an unfamiliar city....Lacking that get a map of downtown... Its easy to orient because you can if you see the lake, thats north...

Take the train to little italy. Get off at university circle ( which is case western reserve campus) and walk on murray hill rd till it comes to a T. thats the heart of little italy..

Not sure where to tell you to go for restraunts there, but the golden bowl used to be ok. Been a long time since i have been there though, so no guarantees. In my opinion, downtown offers better fare and more entertainment unless Case has some event going on or in spring during the festival...Also there used to be good food at various dives on Coventry, just up the hill.

Its a pretty safe neighborhood at night, if you stay south of Euclid avenue, but its all good during the day...and if you are there around midnight, There used to be a donut shop (presti's) that made fresh cinnamon rolls which were just awesome

Also right there used to be the euclid taven for a good beer, burgers and music. if you are there during the day, the Cleveland Art Museum is terrific if you like that kind of thing. (I do) but dont hang around there after dark...

If you are in town on a night or two after the game, you can get last minute tickets in the theater district to plays and such..You do the rock and roll hall of fame and cosi during the day..The football hall of fame is pretty cool if you have the time and the car...Another thing to do is the West Side Market.. It is a taste of what cleveland really is. Worth a trip..

My wife and I are coming up tomorrow for the Charlotte game, and I think we are staying at the Arcade. I stayed there last time and it was pretty good, but there was no wifi in the room itself. Not a huge problem if you have a personal hotdpot on your phone....

Thanks for that @Maximus. Think I'll just pay the fee and have it arranged to save myself any unecessary stress.

Thanks for all the info @CleveRocks, very useful and helpful. Really appreciate recommendations regarding areas to stay away from after dark as well (always a concern when entering a different and unfamiliar part of the world). Presti's sounds great and definitely something I'd be interested in. Thanks again!

Just want to bump this quickly for the locals..

I need clarification that I'm not going to get robbed when I visit E.99th and St. Clair lol. I was asking across on a Bone Thugs board I'm on and they said that even if I want to jump out the cab and get a quick photo, they often look at robbing tourists wanting to take photos at the "famous corner."

Anyone got any other insight into this? Obviously I don't want to go there if it's not safe, but would really love just to drive by the area to see what it's all about. Been on my bucket list for near 10 years.

Be quick, do it during the day and make sure you haven't paid the cabbie any money yet. It's not the place you want to be stranded.. I don't think you will see a cab just meandering that way and the bus isn't too much better than the street. For a guy raised in a suburb, driving down St. Clair/Shaw is interesting, terrifying and sobering all in one; can't imagine what it's going to seem like for a foreigner. Just so you know, boards as windows aren't the new popular trend. Lots and lots of history there, albeit mostly stranded.

B-Spot might be the most overrated place, burger is average but since Michael Symon puts his name on it people want to say it's amazing.

I disagreed with your post because I love B-Spot. I'm not sure how you like your burgers, but I like mine mid-rare/medium. B-Spot uses high enough quality meat that I can comfortably get a mid-rare burger there... It's in my top-5 burgers. The pickle bar is the cherry-on-top, for me. Also, very solid tap rotation.

*Disclaimer* I frequent the one in Eton collection. I'd agree with posters around here saying that while it's good, I'm not sure it makes the "must go" list. @CavsSimmy try it at the Q, though.

Thanks @Soda, this answer came at the perfect time as we were just discussing this over dinner last night.

Found this image online. This is essentially what I want to do:

Planning on going first thing in the morning. Was thinking to use an uber car so it's not necessarily marked as a taxi, having my partner stay in the car as I jump out, take the photo and swiftly (for a lack of a better phrase) get the fuck out of there.

Will probably consult the driver on this thoughts beforehand as well.

Does that kind of thing sound reasonable and safe enough or not really worth it? I just feel like traveling half way across the world to a city I fell in love with on account of a rap group but then not visiting the place I've known about for 15 years and the place where it all started just wouldn't seem right.

Statistically, you'll probably be fine.

Probably. :chuckle:

@CavsSimmy just take a regular cab; have the Hyatt call it for you. Uber didn't get a very good rating by the Better Business Bureau, nor did Lyft... Really, though, you'll be just fine if it's quick like that. Just keep to yourself; predators are always around somewhere.

Great, thanks @Soda. I think I'll definitely try. But if you don't see me posting from the Q that night, it's been wonderful being apart of RCF! Haha.

Oh really? Is that Uber rating just in Cleveland or all over the US? It's a great service here in Aus and other friends who have travelled to the US have used it and provided glaring reviews?
