Okay, well some of us are content with our 16 TBs of pirated data. Would be more but I had 2 separate drives fail. They make WHAT?! You're telling me there's a way to pirate media? Well heavens be....

that would involve me having a computer at home...And that's why they make torrents/Usenet
Yeah, that's why my array looks like shit right now. Haven't bought a drive since Chia pumped prices up. Something like six months now. Bought one 12TB just before the price hike, I've kept it out of the array so I can swap it in if a drive fails. Brought my Parity 1 back into the array rather than cracking the backup.Okay, well some of us are content with our 16 TBs of pirated data. Would be more but I had 2 separate drives fail.

You don't have to have an apple TV to get AppleTV+. AppleTV+ costs $4.99/month, they're killing it with their programming. Hopefully that includes Foundation, which I've been looking forward to since it was announced.
Coming Friday
I read the Foundation Trilogy for the first time maybe 45 years ago, and was looking forward to getting Apple TV just for this. Then I read the showrunner/head writer's comments about it on the BBC website:
Indeed, Goyer was determined to make this adaptation feel as pertinent as possible, by weaving in very contemporary-feeling themes.... The first thing I said to the Asimov Estate is that Asimov crafted Foundation to be a mirror so I need to write about what's happening now. I need to write about Brexit, MeToo, the ascent of nationalism again. I need to write about climate change."
Given his expressed mindset, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he has the Mule show up urging people to Make the Galaxy Great Again. So....pass.
Was the Mule a giant orange asshole? If so, it tracks.
Seriously, though, I imagine it'll be far less on the nose than it sounds. That being said, never been a huge fan of Goyer, so wouldn't be surprised if he screws it up. Looking at his iMDB page, the last truly good thing he wrote was The Dark Knight, and that was thirteen years ago.
I don't mind it when the source material has some messaging. Dune has a strong environmentalist/anticolonialist message, but that's the story as it was written. So if that stuff is in a movie or series, it's supposed to be there.
But going into a series about Galactic geopolitics written more than a half-century ago with the idea that you're going to talk about the MeToo movement is almost laughably bad.
If they actually call it the MeToo movement, sure, but I'd guess it's more of a situation where they'll address sexual assault/harassment/etc and the repercussions. It's been ages since I read any Asimov, but as I recall, he wasn't particularly strong at writing female characters, so it wouldn't be shocking to see them flesh out female characters more than the source material.
I'm not super enthused, because as I mentioned Goyer has been whiffing for a decade now, but I'll give it a chance. If it sucks, it sucks and I'll stop watching the same way I stopped watching any number of other shows that sucked for whatever reason.
