Another Denver - New York Blockbuster?

New York Daily News - 11/08 - 7:20 AM EST (AP Photo)
Isiah Thomas, who never needs a reason to make a trade, may have more incentive than ever to shake up his team.
After three games - all losses - it is clear that Larry Brown is not enamored with the Knicks' point guard situation.

"Look at our roster," Brown said yesterday. "We're not real deep in the backcourt right now."

Doing something about it, however, is no easy task. Most teams are reluctant to make significant changes this early, so it could take another month before any trades are made.

The Denver Nuggets are looking for front-court help with Nene out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The Knicks gladly would trade Malik Rose or Maurice Taylor, but the contracts of both veterans are deemed undesirable.

The Nuggets could emerge as trading partner for several reasons; they have three point guards on their roster - Andre Miller, Earl Boykins and Earl Watson - and Watson is the odd man out thus far. On Sunday, Watson told the Denver Post that he's in a "challenging situation," but that he would not complain over his lack of playing time.

That signing of Watson in Denver really puzzled me.

I suppose we can revisit the Snow to NY rumors...Channing Frye (I think we have to wait a couple more weeks though), Jerome James, Antonio Davis??? Maybe even Q. Richardson???

I know none arte desireable, and I'm not going to check their salaries, just throwing some names out there.

Here is their roster for those that care:

I care not about anybody from New York. But if Denver does, then we might come up with something interesting in a 3-way deal.

Larry Brown favors E.Snow. We can send out Eric Snow, Sasha and Newble (another Larry Brown type player) and see what we can get in return from Denver. I would want to get Nene (might be willing to trade because of torn ACL and the high probability that he'll be leaving for nothing anyway, being behind Camby/Kmart), and Earl Watson (lack of PT behind Miller/Boykins). They might have snagged him to use him for trade bait later, or to use Miller for trade bait.

Possible. Feasible. Probable? Would work wonderssssss for us.

i hope Watson wouldn't complain he knew the situation when he signed with Denver and it's not like he isn't being fairly compensated.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Knicks end up with Earl Boykins. Earl Boykins/Nate Robinson that would be a great defensive presence at the 1 spot. :chuckles:

Denver cant do much with Nene lyxo....

His knee shredded like wheat opening night...done for the season

Yea, that gives us even more leverage.

They need frontcourt help, especially with then injury proneness of Camby. New York seems like a good suitor, and Brown may favor Snow over Watson.
Another factor is that Nene is in his contract year. RFA next season. They could offer him the qualifying offer, but being behind Kmart and Camby doesn't look that great for Nene. He's going to bolt for somewhere, especially because Denver probably won't even be willing to pay him that much. Might as well get value in return and not sink into the season just yet, eh? He lost this season to prove himself.

They're still looking for an outside shot too. Lenard is good, but not that great. Add a young prospect in Sasha and they might be interested.

Why would we want Nene? We can take the gamble. We still lack a legit center to backup Z. And, possibly a replacement for Drew Gooden, we don't know for sure yet. But if this trade arises, it'll be basically: Sasha + Newble + Snow for Watson + Nene. Good trade IMO.

Nene was looking for a contract worth over $60 million before he got hurt. He probably won't get anything close to that now but will still be looking for big money. I don't think he's worth it and I can't see the Cavs wanting to give out another big contract, especially when it will be for a backup. The Cavs now have to think about the luxury tax.

The Watson signing didn't make much sense when it happened and makes less sense now. He got his money, hope he's happy on the bench.

But, see, we'd be giving two of our bad contracts up, for a potential bad one. It's a win-win situation.

Barbosa > Watson...

Lets make a run for Barbosa

Lightning quick..

Word on the streets is that Denver and Boston had an agreement in place to trade Andre Miller and Nene for Paul Pierce, but they decided to sign Watson before the trade went down.

Then of course, the trade fell through and they were left with three high priced PGs.

Would have been good for both teams, but without Nene it ain't happening.

This means Andre Miller is available...Don't know what kind of defender he is. Looks like he is slowing down year over year since he left Clevland in the first place.

Also he is expensive (8 million) and his contract has a trade kicker.

Actually a Miller for Marbury trade might make sense..
