No lockout would be a disaster for the Cavs

I just read a report on hoopshype that said both parties are very optimistic that there will be an agreement on a new CBA before the end of this month.
OK, so Gilbert has been waiting for Larry Brown. I have a feeling the playoffs will be decided in 7 games. That means June 24.
Then Larry Brown will check out his health situation wether he's capable of coaching again next year.
Weather he agrees to come to Cleveland as a President or GM doesn't matter that much, the problem is that the Cavs have ONE WEEK to prepare their strategy for the most important time in Cavs history: how to spend more than $ 20 m in free agency and build a team around LeBron.

My God, I will never forgive Gilbert if he screws this up. Cavs should have hired Morway or Kiki a while ago, and already have a plan to go into the offseason.

If there's no lockout, things could get ugly for the Cavs. In the best case, they will overpay for some players, in worst case scenario, they could be left with all their money if players as Redd, Ray Allen, Larry Hughes would re-sign with their own teams and Phoenix would match an offer for J J.

Larry Hughes is definitly not leaving the Wizards. And there is really no way that a lock-out can help the Cavs. We got a good amount of money for the off-season, so we will be able to pick up a good player, but a lock-out could be disasterous.

It does seem that Gilbert is waiting on Larry Brown. He should have just moved on once The Pistons made the finals. I am sure he has already read numours opinions on Larry's negitive history.

Gilbert just needs to move on and get off this infatuation with Larry. With the anticipation of the lockout, we need to get our pieces together as soon as we can.

Assuming there's no lockout, I'm less worried about our attempts to resign Z and get a FA like JJ or Redd. From what I've read, Mike Brown seems like he knows what he wants and understands how to make that happen. If they allow him to be involved - which they have to, don't they, considering there's NO ONE else around - then I think we'll be okay.

But I do worry about who we'll pick if we manage to get in the draft, which we'll have to do without a GM, apparently. That side of talent eval always seems sketchier. And then I worry about a future GM's reaction to those decisions. It almost forces him to back decisions he didn't make, which is never good business.

I'd really like to see Gilbert come to his senses and pick up Kiki - the guy has a proven track record as GM and is still young and hungry. Morway would be OK, too. Anyone but Larry Brown.

I would have much rather waited in hiring a coach than wait to hire a GM. I think Gilbert is making a huge mistake by dragging out the front office hiring process and waiting on Larry Brown. He should have moved on from L. Brown a long time ago.
Morway or Ferry could have already been hired since they would be receiving promotions with the Cavs from their current teams. The Cavs would have had to wait on Kiki or Sund since they both currently hold GM positions and are under contract.

It's very risky heading into the draft and FA period with none of the new front office personnel in place. You wonder if top candidates would still have interest if they're not going to play a role and have major say in personnel moves that need to start being made in less than 2 weeks. The Cavs do have temporary personnel in the front office in Warkentein and Bratz but they are both likely gone when new hires are made and really shouldn't be the ones now making these key decisions.

The Cavs can't afford to screw up this offseason at all. This summer will determine the success of this franchise in the coming seasons and quite possibly the future of LeBron in Cleveland. It's a highly questionable move by Gilbert to not have any front office already in place.

in terms of the draft, if we get a pick ?, i don't have a problem with the coach making the selection.

he knows what he wants, and what will be the best in his system...

we won't have a lottery pick, so if there ever was a year to have it go down this way, this would be the year....

Could the temporary GM and the new coach make a worse decision than Paxson has in the past?

I don't think so..
