I got worried early, but I think that was more just having flashbacks to last season. Baker & Stefanski (and the whole offense) seemed way out of whack early, so it felt natural to say that was on OBJ. But once he settled down, minus that weird 3rd Down overthrow (he NEVER misses those PA touch throws), it all clicked really well and he was hitting multiple guys.

Really excited to see some game film breakdown of how Baker & Odell were compared to last year and 2019, but I was fairly satisfied when it was all said and done. Especially considering the O-Line had issues all day.

Well, you better stop spending money at ski resorts. It feels natural to blame your skiing habits for all those tangled bedsheet deaths.

We can also blame Nicolas Cage for all those swimming pool deaths:

We all know Nicolas Cage is responsible for every single swimming pool death. I don't think you would shock me if you told me he was conveniently at every one of them too.

I don't. I think it had more to do with Stefanski's playcalling, honestly. And even more so along the lines of "shit happens"

But, it seemed like the Browns came out trying to throw the ball around like crazy, which is pretty unusual

Baker knew the game plan, he just didnt execute. I actually think Stefanski looked bad at first because Baker was missing open targets.

But on a day where Baker wasnt himself, he completed 61% of his passes for 250 yards and no turnovers. That used to be a career day for a Browns qb, lol.

We played a good defense, our plays and scheme got players open. Baker settled down and had an ok game.

The loose correlation leading to blame for OBJ was bizarre. Yesterday reaffirmed what I long thought; it was always about Baker. But it has nothing to do with Bake ‘feeling obligated to force it to a super star’… early last season Baker was just uncomfortable with pressure and uncomfortable with the offense and he did what any sane QB would do - quit making reads and just throw it to his best weapon. It made the two of them look out of sync or lacking in chemistry, but Baker was just defaulting to what he thought was the most reliable option until he was able to trust the line, sense the pressure better, and learn/believe in the system.

Yesterday was also a huge relief to me to see that Baker wouldn’t revert to that mindset under pressure. He found OBJ naturally and within the flow of the offense. If no pressure Baker is a 75% guy, and Baker against a top end of the league Bears DL (with a beat up Wills/hance) is a 61% with no INTs guy that still spreads the ball around and progresses thru routes… we’re in great fucking shape.

I think Wills ankle bothered him allot, he is a better blocker than we saw yesterday. I think Hance showed why he is third string and we got our best effort from him. Hopefully we get Wills back to full strength soon.

I can think of at least one play yesterday, I believe in the second quarter, where Baker wanted to go to OBJ but recognized he wasn't open and hit a different option instead.

Maybe it was nothing, but it felt to me like a clear sign of growth. Early last year and in all of 2019, Baker would have made that throw and probably gotten picked off.

Yeah, he is now going on his progressions and not forcing things compare to last year and his sophomre years. He still keys in on his first read sometimes on certain plays but i guess that's pretty normal.

For a first game back coming off rehab OBJ was incredible IMO. His hands are elite. His route running is off the charts. He made tough catches in traffic.

I hope he can stay healthy, the guy is an absolute beast of a receiver.

Okay, this was funny. But I still think you get my point, right? It's less to do with actual game film, or breakdowns, or... logic. But it's tough to not, in the heat of the moment, freak out a little bit early.

Again, as the game wore on you saw how things were breaking and coming back to form and it wasn't at all an issue.

Yeah, you were acting irrationally.

This is probably the best take I've seen of the entire situation.

As bizarre as it is to blame OBJ, it was just as bizarre to overly defend OBJ against people who were only pointing the finger at Baker. Baker has grown as a QB in this league and I only hope it continues to translate into his chemistry with OBJ as it appears it did week 3. That back-shoulder throw was awesome and something we haven't really seen before with those 2.
