Official Summer 2022 Offseason discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

This is huge news. Over the past 2 years, Washington had been HEAVILY recruiting Connelly to come back home where he's from and have final say and just as much power running their org (without the equity though). That followed 2 years of heavy recruiting Majiri and offering him the same AND tying in some international perks to their recruiting pitch for him. They struck out both times and many expected Connelly to stay pat after rebuffing his hometown org.

This says alot to me in that:

1: He finally agreed to leave Denver(To me, what 2 summers ago looked like a surefire future perennial contender now looks like a team clouded in injuries to 2 of their top 3 core and the potential that MPJ will be a perennial question mark going forward with his bad back.)
2. That he feels Minnesota is a good investment not just to get that equity (big difference over Minny and Denver/Washington pitches, it's the Pat Riley special) but also we've got to consider that he already has moves in mind for them despite them being locked in to their core with KAT, Ant and DLo on max's, but all of their future firsts after loosing this year's pick GSW, are their very own and only a couple 2nds are owed but the same amount are coming back.

Keep an eye on both Minny AND Denver making moves now that both have changes in front offices. Denver needs to get healthy but then they probably also need to prepare for Jokic being eligible for that super max next offseason with three other max contracts on the books for the next 4 years not including Jokics new deal and Minny is in the tax already for next season with very little wiggle room until DLo comes off in 23-24 with Ant Edwards eligible for his max extension that very same summer and two supporting guys in McDaniels and Vanderbilt due at the same time.

Great get by Minny.
Is my man Sachin Gupta available then? Would love to get him. He has shown good decision making imo and always good to get more representation....anything besides more Ranadive

Bradley Beal giving truth to the kids

This is what he tried to tell Spencer Dinwiddie in the lockerroom that didn't go over so well

Bradley Beal to GM's everywhere: "Come get me" :chuckle:
This is why you bring in a guy like Beal to a young team like ours. Sure his contract is bloated but the intangibles and leadership he brings (and he can score/shoot) outweighs that contract.

I think we are pretty good on intangibles/leadership between the Collin/Darius/Love/Allen/Mobley quintet. And Ricky if he comes back.

The first problem with Beal is that he has turned into an inefficient volume scorer if he doesnt have an elite playmaker (ie. 2016 John Wall) next to him. Darius does solve that. But the bigger issue is that he aggressively accelerates our timeline in a way that we really don't need to. We are not in a championship aggressive win now mode rn. We really shouldn't be til our young core his their prime which is not for a few years. Trading for Beal is a disaster in the making because it commits us to a huge contract, without equivalent on court value, and puts us in a position we dont have to be.

Although I don’t think the Cavs should pursue a trade for Beal, I sometimes wonder what the past ten years would’ve looked like had we not fallen to #4 in 2012 and instead earned the opportunity to draft Beal instead of Waiters. I was all-in on an Irving/Beal backcourt… what could’ve been.

In due respect to you, Foucault…..first off none of the players you mentioned with exception of Love (maybe) has the intangibles and leadership I’m referring to! They are all good players but they all lack the leadership qualities we need. It showed in the “play in game”
Secondly you don’t have to be in a win now mode to add very good experienced players. Those type of players are the ones who your young core players learn from. Sure you take on his huge contract but unless #14 turns out to be a Beal type player…..you can’t get that type of player (which this team desperately needs) without making a tough trade. I’m not advocating giving up core pieces (JA, DG, Mobley) but if can package an Okoro or a LaVert, or Love and future picks (because I’m not giving up #14 this year) to get a Beal then you do! Old saying “You can’t make an omelette without cracking a few eggs”!
A player like Beal is the difference between the #4,5 or 6th spot instead of the play in.

The worst defensive and injury prone backcourt in the league most likely.

Well it’s not like McCullum and Dame were a defensive back court juggernaut! And a Beal/Cryie backcourt would have been more explosive

What has Beal shown to make you believe in him as a locker room leader or intangibles guy? He doesn't have that reputation around the league as far as I know, and he's hardly "led" the Wizards to anything.

They did get to the 10 seed once!

I’m sorry but being a leader doesn’t mean you’ve “led” a team to a title but he has been to the playoffs 7 times. BTW when has Beal had anything around him like the talent he would have here except Arenas?

On the bright side, it does take us out of any LBJ sweepstakes.

Arenas was out of the league before Beal was drafted. As it is, I would give John Wall and Russ the credit for those playoff runs. Beal is fine as a secondary guy but has flopped as a primary unlike Wall or Russ
