Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Korver is too much of a weapon not to play with LeBron. I'd split the 1st quarter minutes between Hood and Korver so both can play with Bron. Have Korver start the 2nd, close the half with Hood.

I also, personally, would start Korver. It's a tough call, because I'm sure the team wants to get Hood's confidence up ASAP. Having Jose around with the second unit makes the choice (if Korver remains on the bench) a lot easier, though, I'm sure.

Really happy for Jose. We need him, and he deserves it.

Here is more info from a new Vardon story someone posted in another thread. This seems to confirm the news:

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2018/04/jose_calderon_to_play_for_cava.html

Vardon says either Nance or Tristan likely has to sit now. I think we know where that is headed.

Also he says Lue likes a 9-man rotation. So then things should look like this, with Cedi out and JR maybe in some spot minutes:

GH...........JCa............
RH............JCl.............JR?
LJ.............KK.............co
JG...........(LJ).............tt
KL............LN..............az

That game was a wild roller-coaster, but honestly, I still have cautious optimism with this team. We were on a back-to-back with the most blazing hot team in the league, missing two of our play-makers, and we still made a heck of a game out of it.

Our biggest issues are Lue and defense. Lue overplayed Cedi deep into the fourth when we all know Korver should have been out there, and he still can't get the team to play defense.

I think we can make it to the Finals again. The Celtics are without Kyrie, we've proven we can beat Toronto, and Philly won't be able to hang with us for an entire series. As far as winning it all, well...I'm not that optimistic. But we can at least make it again, make it more competitive than we did last year, and hopefully convince LeBron to stick around.

Cautiously optimistic. I know how bad Lue is. But this team is talented enough that I can still be hopeful for a decent playoffs.

I would actually try to get Hood in with the second unit at the start of the 2nd quarter. I think he is a better fit to keep the offense moving than Korver is with the second unit. Korver can't slash so teams just blanket him on the 3 point line. With LeBron, Love, Calderon/Hill on the floor trying to take Korver out of the game just opens up another good 3 point shooter.

I'm extremely encouraged after this game, despite the loss.

--------> We had 24 assists despite missing our two point guards
--------> We showed fight coming back
--------> We were able to compete in a game that was around a 107.5 pace on a back to back against a high-pace team

I'm not sure if the Sixers are always high-pace, but they are with Embiid out. We played a hot team, in their building, on a back-to-back and we played their style and didn't try for a half and we still almost won.

Also really happy with how Green played.

And Tristan only played 6 minutes.

I do wish we played better defense. But this is how we're going to win games this year, with offense.

Our deadline acqusitions will make very little impact for us in the playoffs from how it looks. Nance barely plays, Hood is a non factor defensively, disappears a lot and is injury prone, Clarkson doesn't know how to play right within our "system" and Hill is just okay.

That's very disappointing considering that they were all supposed to be difference makers for us, and out of them the only starter is Hill and he is a fringe starter at best(Hood is still on the bubble). The rest play very limited minutes.

You atleast expect to get a decent starter in return out of our FRP, IT, Frye, Crowder, Wade, Shumpert, 2nd round pick and cash.

Shit, that's really disappointing.

I dunno. I expect Clarkson will have some decent games where he puts up double digits.
Hood was starting to look more and more comfortable, and they pulled him over concern for soenthing(Achilles?).
Hill can score and play some defense if the ankle gets healthy.
Nance can effect a game in multiple ways.
Are any of them a definite third banana? No. But if one can be per game, while throwing in Jeff Green, they can make some noise.
It’s the damn injuries.

We lose in 6 max to Philly.

I’ve enjoyed the ride and the title but the buck stops here.

Thanks LeBron. Sorry the front office failed you yet again with the most incompetent coaching staff in league history (which, let’s be real here, you were complicit in selecting.)

We have yet to see Playoffs Lue, bro.

Have faith.

BELIEVELAND!

So you're assuming that the sixers will get to the ECF? That's cute. I'm not sure if they survive the 1st round against the Heat which can easily turn into a 6-7 game series. They have just demonstrated their biggest flaws; inconsistency and inexperience.
They were well-rested, pumped up, played a high-pace game in the absence of Embiid (which they won't be able to do once he gets back), yet we almost managed to stun them in THEIR building, coming back from down 30, on a b2b set, tired, mostly shooting averagely. If we indeed meet them in the ECF, it will be us in 6. I'm 100% sure.

I'm more worried about the Pacers in the 1st round. They play hard, pushing the pace and McMillan was able to create a cohesive unit out of them.

Young and inexperienced teams like Philly, no matter how talented, rarely rise to the top in the intense world of the NBA playoffs. The only recent counter-example I can think of was the Oklahoma City team with Durant, Westbrook, and Harden making it to the Finals against Miami when they were all in their early twenties. Given that we just played Philly on a back-to-back, missing two of our point guards, and didn't even try in the first half, we should not be too worried that we barely lost to them last night at their home court in a regular season game. So many here are cynics, but I'm on other NBA boards, and most are saying that LeBron and the Cavs have an easy ride to the Finals this year now that Kyrie is out for Boston. Even with Lue and our weak defense, we're still the playoff favorites in the East right now, all factors logically considered.

Still, last night we traded two opening rounds against the Bucks and the Celtics for two rounds against the Pacers and the Raptors. I guess you can say that is OK since we would eventually have to go through the Raptors anyway and we should beat the Pacers. But at the least this is probably going to reduce our time for rest and injury recuperation by adding more games in the early rounds.

Pacers are going to be tough. Big difference between Pacers and Raptors compared to Bucks and the Celtics.

Do you think the heat will drop out of the 6th seed? They are a game ahead of the Bucks. I'd be fine with the Pacers in the first round rather than Giannis or whatever mental hurdle stops LeBron playing well against the heat.
