Not sure if anyone has been to this site before, but it is a great resource that highlights the huge imbalance between the SEC and other leagues in the NCAA.

Oversigning.com

Oversigning is not against NCAA rules, but really walks the ethical line on how players are treated. Kids are pushed out of the programs that are oversigning to make room for new bodies.

Until the playing field is evened out...whether it be by NCAA rule or other conferences embracing the practice, the SEC will have an advantage over any other league.

James Jackson assumed that when he was offered a full football scholarship to Ohio State it meant that as long as he stayed out of trouble and kept up with his school work, the university would pay for his education for four years.

He later discovered, that's not always how it works.

Jackson, a wide receiver, says he was asked to transfer after last season, two years into his college career.

"They had an oversigning issue," Jackson said. "They had to free up a few scholarships, and coach (Jim) Tressel told me I probably wouldn't play and maybe Ohio State wasn't the place for me."

Jackson said he didn't understand when he was being recruited that all scholarships are only good for a year, subject to renewal at the discretion of the school. He was never told that he might be asked to transfer if he wasn't performing up to expectations and the school wanted his scholarship for someone else.

OSU seems to be terrible at PR these days. Gene Smith should have attacked the accusation.

I think there's a difference between forcing kids out and flat out telling them, "You're probably not going to play at all, so if that's something you may want to do, you will most likely have to do it at another school."

I seriously doubt that if Jackson did not transfer that OSU would have pulled his schollie.

I don't have a problem with over signing. The kids will go to another school and get a scholarship to play football at a smaller school.

If they want to play for USC or an SEC team. Keep your damn job. Don't lose it to a recruit. Problem solved.

I hate the oversignings. It further tells me we should be paying these kids. It should be against NCAA rules. That said, OSU does not have a problem. One case in Jackson does not make for a program issue. OSU might pull 2 or 3 shcollies in a 4 year period while most SEC schoold pull 10 or more. IU basketball has done alot of oversigning lately. Purdue (my alma matter) did it recently and asked a kid to go to a year of prep school and it embarassed me.

When a kid commits to you for 4 years, you should commit to him for 4 years. Period. The SEC should be embarrassed how little education means to their conference. There is a reason the SEC has surpassed the Big Ten in football. It is for sure a win at all costs league. Oversiging, paying under the table, improper benifts, etc.

Yes OSU will get hurt for what they did, but a good look into a typical SEC program would find 3 times the ethics issues.

Yep

I don't have a problem with these kids fighting for roster spots.

Agreed. And for the people who are going to defend the athletes by talking about how much time their practices take up and how much traveling they have to do; i guarantee you that any person trying to pay for college out of their own pocket would be willing to do that rather than work 24/7 just to have all of that money go towards their education.

Only a matter of time before schools decide to leave the NCAA all together...

No kidding. Last month I was talking to someone who works for the Big Ten she said that Jim Delany could attempt something like this because he wants more power and control. To me it seems like he gets anything he wants for college football, so I don't know why he would try something like that.

They also get extensions on assignments, private tutors, etc.

They also make the schools millions of dollars. I guess a tutor is fair value.

Lets concentrate on one item on the list items they receive to win the argument.

If its such a crime against these kids, why isn't anyone steering them toward paying options. Say, the CFL?

I personally believe that the NFL should set up an alternative to college football. A NFDL type league where teams they players learn NFL systems as opposed to the spread formations used in college.
