Preseason Game 2: Browns vs Commanders 8/11/23

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Go through the performance of an onside kick. How is it more dangerous than any of the plays I mentioned?

The onside kick under the current NFL rules is no longer a skillful play that requires execution. There's no benefit to practicing it at this point.

It's become a play where now you simply have to just get a lucky bounce or a flub by the receiving team.

With that being the new reality, it's just not something worth practicing in a meaningless game on a wet field.

No. It was the end of a meaningless game.

The HC used all 3 timeouts to ensure a 4th string QB, who is highly unlikely to make the roster, got to run a 2-min offense at the end of that same game...

That's different. There were other guys playing beyond Mond who may be on the practice squad or potentially even the roster. If not this year, perhaps next year.

Plus it's good situational practice for Stefanski himself as the play caller.

...but an onside kick, with the guys that actually have to do it, *isn't* good situational practice?

No it isn't. Because it's not a thing you can get better at with practice based on the current rules the NFL has in place.

There's no strategy to onside kicks under the current rules. It's a pure luck play. No need to run it in the preseason.

Just take the L on this one my man. There is no need to onside kick in a preseason game.

@adam81king don’t let them get to you on this.

How can a team get better at something they’ve never practiced in game?

You and I get it.

Do you practice flipping heads or tails when you flip coins?
