Yeah, Stanton backing up and mentoring Mayfield was good his rookie year. I question how much value he's really going to provide going forward. I don't even really care about signing a quality back up...but just getting somebody on the team to develop with potential. Probably be addressed next draft.

Freddie coached Stanton, along with QB coach Ryan Lindley, with the Cardinals. Remember that Lindley is in his first year at that position. Stanton isn't getting paid to make an impact on the field, he is getting paid to bridge the coaching staff and Baker.

As someone else mentioned, the time to burn a day three draft pick on a young project backup is probably next year.

Honestly, this team is Baker and so I'm not too mad about not having a quality backup QB to cover. We live and die with Mayfield - as we should - and a lot of our success should be contingent on him playing and him excelling - as it did, late last season. We have a whole bunch of pieces and stars but ultimately, when Baker succeeds, the rest of our team succeeds along with him. It can be a risky formula, but for a franchise like ours, it's a risk I'm pretty content with taking.
