PS3 to be..$465??

May 17, 2005 - According a an article published in the May 17th edition of Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 could be one of the most expensive mass-market videogame consoles ever created. Officials from Sony apparently told the newspaper that PlayStation 3s would sell in Japan for "less than 50,000 yen each." That translates to about $465 US dollars.


Sony unveiled its next-generation console at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005. The beast of a machine utilizes the powerful Cell processor, a custom-designed graphics chip by Nvidia, and 512MBs of RAM for a quantum leap in performance. The system will also be the first-ever to support high-def movie-playback out of the box, taking advantage of the upcoming Blu-ray Disc format.
Sony claims that PS3 will be roughly 35 times more powerful than PS2. If Mainichi Shimbun is correct, gamers will be asked to pay a hefty price for the high-end functionality.

$350 is the max I will pay for any system. You dont get shit with the system anyway, all you get is the damn console and a controller.

They ass rape you enough on accessories, they should atleast lower the console price. Seriously $25 for a controller and memory card, $30 for multi-tap and a headset. Unreal prices, they are pricing themselves out of the market if they keep this up.

people will still pay it... but when you think about it 500 isnt really that bad what you are paying for is a computer more or less and if you were to but a computer to run a game that looks like that you are looking at 1grand at least unless you built it yourself... and even now a vid card will run you 612 bucks to get it to run as smooth and look as good or better than the pics ive seen so far for both systems so really you are making out depending on the quality of the stuff they used you are more or less getting it at cost so they would have to jack the price up to make money from the system... im not saying its right im just saying...

I wouldn't want to pay 500 smackers on the system neither. Is this really worth it? If this new PS can get me on the internet then, I'll pay for it. If not, then I am going to kiss video games goodbye.

That translate to over $500 here. This what we were paying when the original playstations come out. New technology always costs alot upfront initially. I will fork it out if neccessary without too many complaints.
